A Real-Life Joke: Gamer Discovers League of Legends Champion Can Self-‘Shutdown’ for Gold

This seemingly absurd phenomenon actually exists in League of Legends.

As we know, in League of Legends, there is a mechanic called “shutdown”. Essentially, when you take down an enemy champion who has accumulated too many kills or farmed a lot of minions, you receive additional rewards. This is a necessary mechanism that allows League of Legends players to find ways to “turn the tables” and secure victory even in tough matches.

Naturally, in theory, only opponents can claim the aforementioned Shutdown gold by taking down a champion. However, recently, the League of Legends community discovered an unbelievable fact: a champion can self-‘shutdown’ by committing suicide. The champion with this unique effect is none other than Leona.

Specifically, according to the research of the “bug master” Vandiril, he discovered that somehow, Leona can stack Death Rhythm by using her Q ability on a turret. He then found that, in terms of mechanics, when Leona uses her Q on a turret, it counts as self-attacking. This ability, combined with the Blade of the Ruined King or items with energy charge effects, allows Leona to take herself out and claim her own Shutdown gold.

Of course, the scenario where Leona builds Blade of the Ruined King and self-damages is something that almost never happens. However, the bug that causes Leona to be considered self-attacking when using Q is quite a humorous and somewhat ridiculous oversight from Riot. It showcases how dire the state of League of Legends is when even a champion released over 10 years ago can encounter such absurd bugs.
