LCK Channel Unexpectedly Faces an “Incident” During the 2024 Worlds Broadcast

These days, the entire League of Legends community is focused on the 2024 Worlds as the biggest tournament of the year has begun, and the first matches of the Play-In Stage have already taken place. As usual, all broadcast channels under Riot’s system will live stream the matches at the Worlds. However, recently, the official LCK channel unexpectedly went offline while streaming matches from the second group stage of the 2024 Worlds, leaving viewers extremely confused.

According to various reports from the Korean League of Legends community and local media, the cause may stem from the LCK channel— which is rebroadcasting from Riot— playing the music from the song “Heavy is the Crown”—the theme song of the 2024 Worlds—during the tournament. As a result, YouTube flagged this channel for copyright infringement. Although this has not been confirmed, the information only adds to the controversy surrounding the theme song of the 2024 Worlds.

Viewers speculate it might be due to copyright issues since the channel was taken offline right when it was playing Heavy is the Crown - the theme song of the 2024 Worlds

– “It might be because the song is by Linkin Park, so it was automatically flagged by AI for copyright”

The Most Controversial Song in Worlds History

Perhaps never before has the League of Legends community anticipated a theme song for a Worlds like that of 2024, and perhaps never has there been such heated debate among viewers about this song. The music and lyrics are very lively, and the chosen band is one of the legends of the world—Linkin Park. However, the music video has sparked controversy as Riot focused on finding a replacement for T1, while T1’s achievements from last year were only briefly mentioned for a few seconds.

Compared to previous music videos, the most recent being “GODS” from 2023, there is clearly a significant difference. The “GODS” music video focused entirely on Deft and the “miraculous journey” of DRX, while the 2024 Worlds video does the opposite. Moreover, the description revolves solely around which team will dethrone T1. Not to mention the numerous moments of Linkin Park appearing in the video, leading even international viewers to sarcastically comment that the 2024 Worlds song resembles a comeback announcement for Linkin Park more than it does for T1 or League of Legends.

– “The moment you realize Linkin Park is the only North American team to appear in the finals”

– “Congratulations to Linkin Park for being the champions of Worlds Season 13”

If the reason for the LCK channel’s loss of signal during the 2024 Worlds broadcast truly stems from the theme song of the 2024 Worlds, it can be said that the song continues to stir more frustration among Korean viewers. What frustrates the League of Legends community, especially T1 fans, even more, is that up to now, Riot has yet to make any statements regarding its actions concerning T1 and this year’s Worlds.
