G2 Confident to “Crush” LPL and LCK Teams, T1 Seen as Main Reason

The recent loss to T1 has given G2 a huge boost of confidence as they head into the 2024 World Championship.

G2 Gains Great Confidence from Recent Match Against T1

In the 2024 season, G2 can be considered the absolute champion of the LEC region as they have won all three regional titles in the winter, spring, and summer splits. Not stopping there, G2 also had a relatively successful MSI 2024, finishing in fourth place after being stopped by a very formidable T1. Clearly, with such a dominating performance, G2 is seen as a huge hope for the LEC region specifically and Western League of Legends in general.

One of G2’s strengths is their immense confidence ahead of major tournaments, and the upcoming 2024 World Championship is no exception. In an interview with the Korean press, G2 player Mikyx asserted that they can defeat representatives from LCK or LPL in the upcoming tournament. In fact, the loss to T1 at MSI 2024 is the main reason for this overwhelming confidence from G2.

“I am quite confident in G2’s performance at this year’s World Championship, especially after a promising MSI. At MSI, we showed that we can beat any team when playing at our best. Even though we lost to T1 with a score of 0-3, we were still ahead of them at the start of the game with better laning capabilities. If we hadn’t made foolish mistakes, we would have been the winning team (G2). We have improved this aspect over time and can defeat opponents more easily thanks to early game advantages.

In addition, our drafting has improved significantly. The whole team has carefully analyzed the finals of both LPL and LCK and believes we can defeat these strong representatives. At the very least, we are not as weak as people imagine or guaranteed to lose against Eastern teams. Perhaps G2’s game organization isn’t as good as theirs (LCK, LPL teams), but we are not lacking in terms of map control,” Mikyx shared.

G2 Needs to Stay Alert to Avoid “Repetitions of the Past”

Indeed, Mikyx’s comments are completely reasonable as G2 performed brilliantly at the recent MSI 2024. They previously defeated TES with a score of 3-0 and created quite a challenge for T1 in the early game. Furthermore, G2 also has a very good practice record in major tournaments, so their confidence despite potentially facing the “giants” from LCK and LPL is quite understandable.

However, G2 needs to remember that they do not have a “good history” with the Swiss format being applied at the World Championship. Last year, G2 was a team that caused tremendous disappointment when they had a 2-0 record but then lost three consecutive matches against Gen.G, NRG, and BLG, resulting in a harsh elimination. If they repeat this result at the 2024 World Championship, the confident statements made by G2 will merely serve as fodder for the community to “troll” this team.

In conclusion, with their overwhelming performance in the LEC over the past year, G2 remains a formidable name at this year’s World Championship. However, to assert their strength, this team needs to seize opportunities to advance past the upcoming Swiss round early. Otherwise, a bitter elimination scenario like the one at the 2023 World Championship will repeat, leaving all of G2’s efforts in vain.
