The 2024 Swiss Stage hasn't even started yet, but Gumayusi has been unfairly attacked because of Chovy.

Why is Gumayusi Suddenly Under Attack, Thanks to Chovy?

Currently, the League of Legends community is gearing up for the tense matches of the 2024 Swiss Stage. Of course, the players have gathered on the European servers to start tryharding their ranks for the upcoming games. The T1 stars are still the center of attention as always, and it was from their EUW accounts that Gumayusi found himself in trouble. Recently, the community discovered that Gumayusi’s in-game name is “Taco Genius,” but the accompanying number is “8848,” which has sparked intense controversy.

Specifically, a significant portion of Gumayusi’s anti-fans and Chovy fans immediately erupted in anger, claiming that the T1 AD Carry was deliberately trying to provoke Chovy. Perhaps those who have followed Chovy for a long time know that the Mid Laner of Gen.G has a record of 88848 (his ranking each time he participates in Worlds). And fans of Chovy, along with anti-fans of Gumayusi, believe that the numbers associated with Gumayusi’s in-game ID are directly linked to this, but must be trimmed down due to Riot’s username regulations.

The Real Meaning Behind Gumayusi’s Rank Account Name

In reality, Gumayusi’s in-game account with the number “8848” may have a much deeper meaning. Some fans have recognized that this number is the height of the world’s highest mountain – Everest. Perhaps Gumayusi used this number to set a goal for himself at the 2024 Worlds. After all, his journey and that of T1 this year will be as challenging as conquering the peak of Everest. But the ultimate destination is to reach the highest position, surpassing all others in the League of Legends world.

Some fans explain that the number 8848 is the height of Mount Everest, and it might also be a random number since Gumayusi's original nickname had no meaning

Moreover, Gumayusi has always been a player with a positive and friendly spirit, and he has never made negative statements or actions beyond control towards his opponents. Therefore, it seems unreasonable that a mere sequence of numbers could lead to Gumayusi being attacked, and perhaps even Chovy himself would feel dissatisfied with his overly zealous fans.
