An LPL Superstar Announces Retirement but the Move is “Unprecedented”
During the final transfer period of each season, alongside signed deals and finalized rosters, there are also players who will end their competitive careers for various reasons. The 2024 end-of-season transfer window is no exception, and recently, a former LPL superstar officially announced his retirement, namely Yagao – the Mid Laner of JD Gaming.

However, while Yagao’s departure from professional League of Legends was anticipated, the manner of his announcement and his future plans surprised many. Specifically, Yagao stated that he is not only stepping away from professional gaming but is completely leaving League of Legends. This player will cut all ties with the game that made him famous and will lead a normal life.

This decision is seen as contrary to common sense. Yagao had good performance during his career and he was not involved in any major dramas or scandals like others who have left League of Legends before. Therefore, many fans expressed their surprise at this decision from the 1998-born player.
However, there are also opinions acknowledging that this aligns with Yagao’s personality. While competing, he was always characterized as a rather “relaxed” player. The former JDG and BLG star maintained a calm demeanor whether his team won or lost. It could even be said that he viewed League of Legends as both a career and a pure game.

The Intentions of the LPL Superstar May Reflect the Wishes of Many Players
Not only Yagao, but many professional League of Legends players might also wish to live a relaxed life after retirement. And not a few cases have actually achieved this like the LPL superstar. The only difference is that many of them later returned to professional League of Legends in various roles.

No one knows for sure if Yagao can completely detach himself from League of Legends as he claims. But regardless, Yagao’s achievements and his place in the history of League of Legends have been firmly established.
