South Korea’s ASIAD LoL Lineup Sparks Controversy Over One Position

To the surprise of the LoL community, KeSPA recently officially revealed the roster for ASIAD 2026, with League of Legends receiving special attention. Contrary to many predictions, the selected players are Zeus – Canyon – Faker – Zeka – Gumayusi – Keria. In fact, according to most discussions erupting across various social media platforms, Canyon’s position is causing the most “unease” among fans.

First, KeSPA’s selection criteria were announced and community-translated, including performance in the KeSPA Cup, LCK, and Worlds over the past two seasons (24 and 25) up to now. However, applying this criterion, Canyon has not won any Worlds titles in the last two years listed.

Next, Gen.G has nearly dominated the LCK and MSI. Yet, MSI is not included in KeSPA’s official criteria. For the Top and Midlane positions, Zeus and Zeka also lack some factors like Canyon but consistently perform at the highest level, whereas Canyon’s form remains a big question. For example, in the match against T1, he was one of the weakest players, making two critical Smite mistakes.

Meanwhile, community opinion suggests Oner meets all the criteria stated by KeSPA. However, many feel that selecting only HLE and T1 players may invite controversy. Additionally, Chovy has been reported as “injured,” which could make Canyon’s inclusion more reasonable.

– Are they really picking Canyon over Oner?

– If playing as a duo, it would be Zeka-Kanavi or Faker-Oner, so why Faker/Zeka + Oner?

– The most questionable pick is definitely Canyon, period!

ASIAD Results Will Determine the Fate of South Korean LoL Players

In reality, for a team like South Korea’s LoL squad, choosing who to include or exclude inevitably causes debate. Therefore, more than ever, the ASIAD results will not only decide the fate of players and coaching staff but could also lead to extended discussions if South Korea does not achieve the expected results.
