In the latest development, Riot Games has recently cited a statement from Mr. John Needham – Head of Global Esports, confirming the news regarding the delay of the MSI – Mid-Season Invitational 2020 tournament.

Traditionally, MSI is usually held in May each year, but with this announcement, it is likely that the tournament will be postponed by 1 to 2 months depending on the situation of the epidemic. As of now, MSI 2020 has not announced the start date or the venue for the tournament.
Established in 2015, the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) has become the second largest international tournament of the year for professional League of Legends, and is a significant event in the esports scene alongside the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds), The International (TI), DOTA 2 Majors, and other major competitions.

Regarding the postponement of MSI 2020, Mr. John Needham also expressed that he understands the disappointment of the players, the fan community, and League of Legends enthusiasts; however, this is a necessary move, if not an unavoidable one, given the complex developments of the global epidemic.
The rescheduling of MSI partly stems from the fact that many regional tournaments like the LPL and PCS have also postponed their schedules due to the impact of the epidemic. Additionally, this move allows other regions more flexibility in organizing matches to cope with adverse developments concerning public health.
