As previously reported, on February 26, the LPL tournament organizers held an online tournament aimed at practicing among teams. However, in reality, besides the reason for practice and scrims, this was also a trial tournament for the online competition format, intended to be applied for the LPL in the future.

As expected, the LPL organizers have officially announced the return of the largest League of Legends tournament in China. Specifically, the LPL Spring 2020 will resume matches starting March 9, ending a month of delay due to the epidemic. All matches will be played online, meaning teams will compete from their Gaming Houses under the supervision of referees.

LPL is back.

As you all know, the tournament had to be postponed for a long time due to the Coronavirus pandemic. After analyzing the situation, the LPL organizers and teams have agreed on new adjustments for the 2020 season:

– The Spring 2020 tournament will return on March 9, 2020. The English broadcast channel will resume on March 25, 2020, and will stream live on both YouTube and Twitch. The Chinese broadcast channels will also be back online.

– All players must complete a 14-day quarantine and health check before returning to competition.

– All remaining matches of the Spring 2020 tournament will be played online until the situation improves and venues are deemed safe. Players will compete from their own premises. Exceptions will be made for players in quarantine areas who cannot leave their locality.

– Referees will be appointed to ensure transparency and fairness.

This is the first time in LPL history that the tournament has to be held online. Therefore, there will certainly be difficulties and issues in organization or technical aspects, but we will try to minimize this as much as possible. We hope you will enjoy thrilling matches in true LPL style.”

As of now, it has been nearly a month since the LPL Spring was indefinitely postponed due to the complicated developments of the Corona pneumonia epidemic in China. Many professional League of Legends players from Hubei province are currently in quarantine from the Lunar New Year break and are expected not to return to their Gaming Houses before March 9.
