Launched in June 2019, Teamfight Tactics quickly became a sensation within the League of Legends community. With the large existing player base of League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics achieved commercial success rapidly, with products like Little Legends and arena skins being very popular. Moreover, this game mode is developed by an incredibly creative and dedicated team.

With Teamfight Tactics developing so rapidly, it’s understandable that some players exclusively play “auto chess” and overlook the original League of Legends. This led to a perspective that Teamfight Tactics should be separated from League of Legends to make it easier for dedicated players to provide feedback. However, Riot Games disagrees. In a recent post on the League of Legends homepage, the Director of League of Legends – Riot Meddler explained this.

“The Upcoming Development of Teamfight Tactics
One question we often receive lately is why we don’t separate Teamfight Tactics into an independent game instead of keeping it as a mode within League of Legends. Doing so would lighten the client, create a smoother UI, and make it easier for newcomers to access the game they want… However, keeping both in one client has its advantages as well. Right now, we can build in-game events and code simultaneously for both League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics.
Moreover, there are many players who enjoy both modes, making the transition between the two games very valuable. Ultimately, separating a game into two parts requires a lot of time and effort to develop and upgrade other features as well.
In the near future, what we are aiming for is to find ways to serve the needs of both types of players while maintaining the aforementioned convenience. This means we will separate the ranked match history for Teamfight Tactics, allowing for in-depth analysis of this mode. Most importantly, we will ensure that the loading frame based on Teamfight Tactics rankings will not appear in any League of Legends matches.”

Although Teamfight Tactics is increasingly developing and has its own distinct player base, most Teamfight Tactics players also play League of Legends. Therefore, separating these two games would create significant inconvenience for players, as someone who plays Teamfight Tactics a lot may still want to play League of Legends with friends, and doing so easily is preferable to having to log in again if these two games were separated.

Perhaps the greatest advantage that League of Legends has over its competitors is precisely this; they keep Teamfight Tactics within the same client, which only serves to increase the player count. In the near future, at least as it stands, Riot Games assures that Teamfight Tactics will remain a part of League of Legends, at least on the PC platform.
