LoL: The 5 Most Anticipated Changes in Patch 10.6 – When Will the ‘Funnel’ Strategy Come to an End?

Patch 10.6 is upon us, and here’s a list of the most awaited changes that players hope Riot will implement in the new version.

Although the changes for League of Legends patch 10.6 have been planned and tested on the PBE server recently, everything can still change at the last minute. We still have the right to hope that the proposed changes below will come true as soon as possible:

1. Completely Remove Support Champions from Top Lane

Since the beginning of Season 10, Support champions have begun to invade the top lane. Sona had the highest win rate among all top lane champions for three consecutive patches, while Soraka was the top pick in professional play. By patch 10.5, these two champions were overtaken by Janna – who currently has a 53% win rate and is considered one of the best top lane champions today.

The success of Support champions in the top lane has highlighted how poor this role currently is. Champions like Janna, Sona, and Soraka have much cheaper items compared to other top lane champions and can complete these items faster, even when losing more than 40 minion stats. Removing Support champions from the top lane should be Riot’s top priority in the near future.

2. End the ‘Funnel’ Strategy

In the last four patches, the champion with the highest win rate in the mid lane continues to be a Support champion – Taric. With recent buffs to the Blade of the Ruined King, the duo of Taric – Master Yi is more powerful than ever. The ‘funnel’ strategy will destroy interactive gameplay and negatively impact the entire game, both for the team using this strategy and the opposing team.

3. Allow Some New Champions to Shine in the Meta

Throughout Season 10, the top champions in various roles have remained stable with a few familiar names, and very few exceptions have had the opportunity to shine in the meta. Some champions are very close to changing the meta, such as Bard in patch 10.4, only to be immediately hit with direct nerfs from Riot. Allowing less-played champions to have the chance to shine would be a significant step toward encouraging players to be creative and find their own paths instead of relying too much on Riot’s changes and adjustments.

4. Adjust Jungle Experience

No role has seen as many changes in League of Legends as the jungle role. In Season 10, this role has received changes that have significantly reduced the amount of gold and experience gained, leading to a restricted champion pool for junglers, limiting them to just a few choices. Junglers with strong gank potential after level 6 have almost been completely removed from the meta in favor of champions that can play aggressively from level 3.

A nearly 2-level gap between the solo laner and jungler means this role now has very little impact on the game unless early ganks are organized to gain an advantage. Even with recent buffs to the Golem camp, junglers still often feel like they have little control over the game. Therefore, instead of adding more champions to the jungle pool, Riot should consider adjusting the gold and experience from jungle camps to bring back junglers after level 6 into the meta.

5. Bring Back the One for All Mode

It has been a long time since the last rotating mode in League of Legends was released, and One for All would be the perfect way for players to experiment with the changes and new champions that Riot has released over the past few months. Imagine what you and your teammates could do with five Yuumi or five Sett in your team composition? One for All would be a great way to keep players engaged with plenty of fun without the pressure of winning or losing.
