The mid lane can be said to be the most balanced area in LoL right now, with a diverse champion pool offering many options while the strength of specific champions remains quite stable—not too overpowered but still capable of applying pressure. This is also the reason why patch 10.6 has many changes targeting top lane, jungle, and bot lane, while mid lane remains largely untouched.
The list of the strongest mid lane champions in patch 10.6 focuses on the most prominent faces in the current meta, representing various champion types and playstyles:
1. Diana
Since her rework at the end of Season 9, Diana has become a formidable force in the mid lane. Her abilities synergize effectively with the Conqueror rune in the early and mid game, while her multi-target damage in the late game with her ultimate, Moonfall (R), is more than enough to contribute to her team’s victory.

Currently, very few champions can face Diana head-on in the mid lane. Control mages like Orianna, Syndra, and Ryze simply cannot cope with her all-in potential at level 6, while other assassins struggle against her crowd control and shielding abilities.
2. Talon
Talon has always been a dominating force in the mid lane as he can freely roam to other lanes and leverage his lead to snowball the entire team. In patch 10.6, his roaming ability is even more dangerous as top laners—who primarily utilize Teleport—are limited in using this summoner spell in the early levels due to increased cooldown.

Once Talon can snowball two lanes, he can help the jungler gain a lead with the pressure he creates on the map and make any struggling bot lane duo relevant in team fights. However, Talon is a champion that is very difficult to contribute to the team if he does not get ahead early. Therefore, if playing aggressively in the early game is not your style, Talon might not be the right choice.
3. Katarina
Like Lee Sin and Akali, Katarina is a champion with an extremely high skill ceiling, capable of shining only in the hands of players with strong mechanics and a good understanding of the game. Katarina’s mobility can be a significant nuisance for any enemy team composition lacking crowd control or defensive capabilities, as she can jump from one target to another and take down foes effortlessly.

Additionally, Katarina is a mid lane champion capable of stacking Conqueror remarkably, allowing her to survive longer and deal more damage in team fights. Her ultimate, Death Lotus (R), which inflicts Grievous Wounds on multiple enemies, is an effective counter against support champions like Janna, Sona, and Soraka, who are currently dominating the top lane.
4. Vladimir
Vladimir is listed among the strongest mid lane champions due to his absolute power in the late game. With his abilities, he can easily eliminate enemy carries right in the midst of the opponent’s formation and turn the tide of team fights in favor of his team. Vladimir can also waste time for his teammates very effectively with Zhonya’s Hourglass or Stopwatch alongside Transfusion (W) while waiting for Sanguine Pool (Q) to come off cooldown.

A lack of hard crowd control can be a weakness that makes Vladimir difficult to play once he falls behind. He may not be able to dive into the enemy team with enough damage to one-shot the opposing carry. However, once he is fully equipped with 6 items, very few champions can deal with a late-game Vladimir.
5. Kassadin
Similar to Vladimir, Kassadin is a late-game champion who can reach his full power threshold at level 16 with just Rod of Ages and Archangel’s Staff. He boasts excellent mobility in the late game with Riftwalk (R), which has a low cooldown, and Zhonya’s Hourglass ready to buy time when caught by opponents.

With his ultimate, Kassadin can easily take down any enemy carry merely with Nether Blade (W), while Null Sphere (Q) and Force Pulse (E) are always ready to counter any crowd control abilities that may come from the opponent’s top lane, support, or jungle. Kassadin’s late-game power also makes him a very dangerous split-pusher that the enemy team would never dare to send just one person to deal with him.
