Top Lane: Wukong
First on this list is Wukong – a champion not easy to pick in this time but cannot be overlooked. According to Riot, part of their goal when reworking Wukong was to make him more viable as a Fighter rather than just a one-shot Assassin like before. Therefore, the changes in his ability kit could make him a top priority pick in the top lane in the coming days.
The most significant change is to Wukong’s Decoy (W). Now, instead of just creating a clone that deals damage before disappearing, the clone will mimic his basic attacks and ultimate. Although it can no longer traverse terrain as before, this trade-off is entirely worth it.
Second, Wukong’s ultimate after the rework can be considered a significant buff. Starting from patch 10.6, Cyclone (R) can be reactivated within 8 seconds, and the second activation will also knock up enemies. Although the cooldown and knock-up duration have been reduced, considering he could only knock up once before, this team fight tool is now much better than before. To make it even better, the damage frequency has been reduced to just 0.25 seconds while Conqueror still applies each time he deals damage. Because it can synergize with Wukong’s clone, it will definitely be extremely dangerous.
Finally, his Thousand-Pound Hammer (Q) now deals more damage, has a longer range later, and its cooldown is reduced when he or his decoy deals damage with basic attacks or abilities. Due to these changes, it will be a useful harass tool and allow him to engage in longer skirmishes.
Jungle: Shen
Although more familiar with the top lane, Shen is not a stranger in the jungle. Thus, with his Q ability’s increased maximum damage to monsters, it’s no surprise that Shen is gradually favored in this jungle role.
Shen’s jungle clearing ability before patch 10.6 was quite lackluster and insignificant. This new buff allows him to clear camps faster and reach the crucial level 6 earlier than before. At level 6, Shen can easily participate in fights all over the map, and unlike in the top lane, he does not have to worry about being pushed and losing valuable turret shield layers.
Additionally, Shen’s power before level 6 should not be underestimated. The dueling potential that Twilight Assault (Q) provides is very strong, enabling him to contest Scuttle Crabs or engage in small skirmishes quite effectively. Furthermore, Shen can gank effectively with a Flash – taunt combo that catches enemies off guard. He will still encounter some tough match-ups, but mostly remains very reliable. Even in a bad match-up, he can still be useful for the team in various ways.
Mid Lane: Talon
In the mid lane, Talon continuously asserts his dominance over multiple patches. The buff in patch 10.4 hoped to encourage him to “switch” to the jungle more, but it didn’t really achieve that. Instead, thanks to his excellent roaming ability, Talon can farm enemy jungle camps to enhance his CS. This effectively reduces the gold and experience input of the opposing jungler, exacerbating the level gap that is already very serious in the current meta.
This is not the only reason why Talon is a strong pick. Currently, the mid lane meta favors champions with roaming potential. Although a few popular roaming champions have been notably affected by the nerf to Mobility Boots, this does not impact Talon much. Who needs boots when you can easily parkour over walls, secure a double kill in the bot lane, and escape comfortably?
Overall, Talon is a great champion to practice. He does not require as high personal skill as Zed but can achieve similar effectiveness. He possesses a very simple, easy-to-understand combo with the potential to secure early kills right from level 2. As a short-range champion, Talon certainly still faces some tough matchups in the mid lane. Luckily, with Tiamat and Shadow Assault (W), Talon can clear minions quickly and leave lane to roam across the map.
ADC: Miss Fortune
It’s hard to award the title of strongest ADC in the meta to anyone other than Miss Fortune. She has dominated the bot lane since the start of Season 10, and with Senna and Aphelios continuously receiving nerfs, she is undoubtedly the top choice at this time.
There are two main aspects that make Miss Fortune a strong pick. First is her laning phase. Double Up (Q) can deal tremendous damage to poke enemies if used accurately. While farming minions, her basic attacks also harass enemies extremely effectively thanks to the passive Love Tap. She can synergize well with almost any Support champion and can compensate for range disadvantages with pure damage.
Another strength that Miss Fortune possesses is her team fight capability. This is clearly demonstrated with her ultimate Bullet Time (R), considered one of the most dangerous AoE skills in League of Legends. With it and a few other crowd control effects provided by her teammates, she can easily wipe out the enemy team. If Miss Fortune teams up with heavy CC Support champions like Nautilus or well-set-up champions like Jarvan IV or Orianna, team fights effectively become too easy for her.
Support: Morgana
The final position in the strongest team composition of patch 10.6 is Morgana in the Support role. Morgana always has a place in any patch just with her Black Shield (E), and this time is no exception. This skill even recently received a buff, so her play rate will certainly increase in the near future.
Morgana excels at her Support role in the current meta where Nautilus, Leona, and Thresh are all strong, top-tier picks in the bot lane. If you are wary of these pull-type Support champions but cannot effectively deal with them, Morgana is the perfect choice. The aforementioned Black Shield allows her to block disable effects and absorb magic damage, making it easier for herself and her teammates. Additionally, her ultimate Soul Shackles (R) with the ability to slow and stun multiple targets is an effective tool for disrupting the enemy formation in late-game team fights.
Although she is a strong peel Support, Morgana can still play aggressively if desired. When combined with long-range champions like Caitlyn or high-damage champions like Miss Fortune, her Dark Binding (Q) can be a deadly weapon. This versatility ensures Morgana can fit with almost any type of lane partner or team composition.
