For League of Legends players, we’ve all heard terms like “Riot’s darling” when referring to champions with an abundance of skins. And where there’s a “darling,” there’s often a “stepchild”; however, the champions deemed “stepchildren” aren’t necessarily those with fewer skins, but rather those that Riot Games fails to update with adequate information.

A few days ago, a player posted on the League of Legends subreddit to “call out” Riot Games for having reworked Aurelion Sol seven months ago but still showcasing the old skill set. Meanwhile, Wukong, who was just adjusted in patch 10.6, received a complete update of new information in just over a week. Thus, despite possessing an impressive backstory, Aurelion Sol remains one of the most neglected champions even by his own creator.

For those who may not know, Aurelion Sol’s old W – Celestial Expansion was a toggle skill that consumed energy over time; now it only expands for a short duration and enhances the damage of the stars around him. The old E – Space Journey increased movement speed when moving in a straight line; now it no longer does that but the speed upon activating this skill is much faster.

After being “called out” like this, a representative from Riot Games, Riot EarthSlug, a member of the League of Legends production team, admitted that they had indeed “forgotten” to update Aurelion Sol and promised to update the “new” skills of this dragon as soon as possible. This just shows that sometimes Riot Games tends to favor hot champions that draw a lot of community attention, like Wukong.

One player after reading the post: Wait, has Aurelion Sol been reworked?
Post author: That’s right, the W and E skills have been reworked for a while now.
Riot EarthSlug: Exactly, and this post reminded me about that; we will update soon.

In recent months, Riot Games has been actively upgrading its client, from the processing speed when selecting champions and skins to the item suggestions in the shop being updated to match the current meta. While it seems like this is entirely Riot’s doing, players also contribute significantly; without posts like the one above, it could very well be that Aurelion Sol continues to be presented with the old skills for years to come.
