The Rise of the Ambush Team in TFT Season 13
In the previous patch of TFT Season 13, the Ambush team composition had fallen into a very weak state as its key champions were heavily nerfed. As a result, Ambush nearly vanished from the meta, paving the way for the rise of “Fast 9” strategies. Perhaps Riot Games also felt that a meta heavily leaning towards saving gold and leveling up was not a good idea. Therefore, in patch 13.3, they made significant buff adjustments to bring the Ambush team back.

Specifically, the two key units of this system, Camille and Smeech, have both received increased damage or significantly reduced maximum energy. This allows them to deal tremendous damage whenever they cast their abilities to eliminate opponents as quickly as possible. Moreover, players are also looking to combine with the Spellweaver trait mid-game to increase resource generation, ready to level up in the later stages to compete with the prevailing “Fast 9” playstyle.
Building a “New” Ambush Team in TFT Season 13
In the early game, players can aim for high-value 1-cost champions such as Powder, Steb, and Trundle to ensure both damage and durability. By level 4, Camille will naturally be a great addition, leveraging the increased damage stats from the Guardian and Ambush crits. If players are lucky enough to own Smeech at level 5, they will easily secure a winning streak.

In the mid-game, players can replace Trundle with Renni and add Singed to activate the 3 Spellweaver trait with Smeech. Given the nature of the reroll team composition, it is quite understandable for players to go on a losing streak while searching for Smeech at 3 stars, which will accumulate many stacks for this trait. According to expert advice, the best time to “cash out” for this team is when reaching 400 Spellweaver points to gain additional resources to upgrade Smeech.

In the late game, additions such as Ekko or Jinx will naturally be prioritized to complete the 5 Ambush threshold. Additionally, Garen and Scar are also excellent choices to boost the durability of key champions, preventing them from being taken down too quickly before using their abilities. If players also acquire the Ambush emblem, they can consider utilizing other key champions like Ambessa or even Warwick if they are lucky enough.

Some Tips for Building the Team
Since both Camille and Smeech are melee carries, items like Infinity Edge and Bloodthirster are top priority. During the process of stacking Spellweaver, if the Chain Axe appears, players can “cash out” earlier than the 400 stack threshold to boost Smeech’s power as quickly as possible. Regarding Augments, upgrades providing Gauntlet of Duel or B.F. Sword will be prioritized to assemble core items early. Additionally, augments that provide armor reduction are also very suitable for this team composition.
