The Pilot - Spy composition is currently extremely strong according to most statistics sites about Teamfight Tactics.

When should you play?

A major advantage of the Pilot – Spy composition compared to other compositions in Teamfight Tactics is that most of the necessary champions for this composition cost 3 gold or less, with only Fizz costing 4 gold. Therefore, you can build this composition in every match, and the first sign to play this composition is to have one of the two units Annie or Kai’Sa at 2 stars early on.

Of course, the heart of this composition will be Shaco as he is the primary damage dealer for any Spy composition. Our advice is to try to acquire as many B.F. Swords as possible to effectively play the Pilot – Spy composition and any team that utilizes the clown Shaco.

Strength Timing Strategy

For now, putting aside the early game phase, the Pilot – Spy composition has 2 main power spikes: when you complete the combo of 3 Pilots with the Super Robot, and the second spike is when Shaco reaches 3 stars. Understanding the power spikes of this composition will help you make the best equipment decisions.

At the moment you complete the 3 Pilot combo, the most important thing is to ensure your Super Robot can tank and deal enough damage. Don’t think that having a significant amount of health is enough; many strong early combos like 2 Marksmen or Cannoneers can easily take down this champion. Therefore, what’s necessary at this point is to give your Super Robot a Guardian Angel to enhance its survivability.

The second power spike – Shaco reaching 3 stars is the crucial moment to determine if you can achieve top 1. The mistake most players make is to roll right from level 6 in hopes of winning as quickly as possible. However, level 7 is the best time for you to roll for a 3-star champion; the reason is simple: at this level, the appearance rate of 3-cost champions (Shaco costs this) is 40%, making it much easier to find a 3-star. A small tip is to buy all champions of the same cost while rolling.

Some Tips for Building the Composition

An improvement of the Spy compared to the Assassin from the previous season is that they will jump straight into the enemy’s backline rather than jumping to the furthest position. Therefore, the Pilot – Spy composition also requires careful positioning; you need to place your high-damage champions to jump in and take down the dangerous units of the enemy first.

This might seem unimportant at first, but it’s one of the vital factors for this composition. Imagine if your Shaco jumped into the air and then walked back to hit the enemy’s tank; how much damage would that waste? Observe how your opponents position their teams closely to come up with counter-strategies.

Another common mistake players make is focusing too much on Shaco. While this unit is indeed strong, other units in the composition can also become carries if equipped appropriately. If you roll too much money but only get Shaco at 2 stars while Kai’Sa is at 3 stars, you should allocate items to her to carry the team while waiting for Shaco to reach 3 stars.
