After 3 seasons that can be described as extremely successful and attracting a stable number of players, Teamfight Tactics is increasingly proving its unique appeal as an independent game (even though it still operates through the League of Legends client).

Recently, Riot Games officially announced plans to launch the World Championship for the “auto chess” genre, named Teamfight Tactics: Galaxies Championship. This is also the first professional esports tournament for Teamfight Tactics organized by Riot, following the success of a series of previous showmatch tournaments.

Similar to the World Championship for League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics: Galaxies Championship will be organized systematically from the regional qualifiers to the main event.

Competitors wishing to participate in the tournament must register for the regional qualifiers from the servers in Brazil, Japan, Turkey, China, Europe (including Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East), Latin America, North America, and South Korea.

Among them, China and Europe will have 3 slots each, while South Korea, North America, Latin America, and Brazil will each have 2 slots, and Japan and Turkey will contribute 1 representative from each region.

A total of 16 players from 8 server regions around the world will compete in the Teamfight Tactics World Championship, with a total prize pool of $200,000 (approximately 4.7 billion VND).

The tournament is set to launch in 2020. In another move, the North America Teamfight Tactics championship will also kick off in May. In fact, this is an accumulating point activity based on the performance of players in ranked solo.

Starting from the first week of May, Riot will conduct weekly point calculations for players based on their rank on the North American server. After 12 weeks, the 10 players with the highest accumulated points will qualify for the North America Teamfight Tactics Finals held at the end of August, aiming to select 2 representatives for the World Championship.

Therefore, it is highly likely that the Teamfight Tactics World Championship will commence in early or mid-September, right before the League of Legends World Championship event takes place.
