Recently, Riot Games officially announced the acquisition of Hypixel Studios – a game developer specialized in open-world RPGs, and also a familiar partner of Riot in recent years.

“Over the past year and a half, we have had many discussions with Hypixel Studios about building their vision to develop a game genre that can reach a large global player base. And now, they are ready for a new challenge; we are extremely excited to elevate our partnership to a new level through this acquisition. In addition to supporting the development of Hypixel Studios, we also hope to learn a lot from them.” – Riot Dylan Jadeja – President of Riot Games stated.
“For the past 18 months, we have had numerous opportunities to consult with Hypixel Studios as they build their vision to develop a game genre that can reach many players worldwide. And now, they are ready to turn the page; we are incredibly excited to elevate our partnership to a new level through this acquisition. We want to support Hypixel Studios on their journey, throughout the development process, helping them grow and learn from them,” said Riot President Dylan Jadeja.

Speaking of Hypixel Studios, they are the developers behind Hytale – an open-world RPG with graphics similar to Minecraft. This product is expected to officially launch in 2021 and has currently attracted up to 2.5 million pre-registrations.
In fact, Riot Games’ move to acquire Hypixel Studios had been anticipated, as over the past year, the creator of League of Legends has also been known as the largest investor in this studio. Many opinions have asserted that the complete acquisition of Hypixel Studios is a move indicating that Riot is hastily developing an MMORPG within the League of Legends universe, possibly even an open-world game – Hypixel’s strongest area in game production.
