With a game that has entered its 10th year like League of Legends, it’s natural that many champions have outdated playstyles and are gradually falling behind the game’s evolution. Along with that, reworking these characters to make them more appealing to players is also an essential task for Riot Games.

Recently, we have seen two reworks, one major and one minor, for Fiddlesticks and Wukong, both of which received relatively positive feedback. The next champion to be reworked is the Bear God from the frigid land of Freljord – Volibear. Over the past few days, players have gradually been teased with more details about the rework by Riot Games. Just last night, we received information from the League of Legends development team that next month will be when Volibear undergoes his transformation.

However, that’s not all that Riot Games has revealed about champion reworks. In comments on Reddit, the lead champion producer for League of Legends – Riot Reav3 has hinted that another rework project has already entered the development phase, but it simply hasn’t been announced yet. The special point here is that this reworked champion is separate from the previously announced rework pool.

Riot Reav3: “The rework pool does not encompass all champions that need upgrading, we are not just reworking the winning champions from the voting. For example, right now we have another rework project underway and it is in the early stages of development. Even if Volibear and Fiddlesticks did not tie in the voting, we would still be working on another rework.”
Player asks: “But is the unannounced project aimed for release in 2021?”
Riot Reav3: “Exactly.”
Player asks: “Will you discuss this project in the next Champion Roadmap post? I mean, it’s obviously too early to expect anything beyond a few small teases. I’m really excited about champion upgrades beyond the selected champions.”
Riot Reav3: “Yes, I will discuss this project in the Champion Roadmap.”
Player asks: “When will that post be released?”
Riot Reav3: “It should be right after Volibear’s rework is released to the official server.”
Player asks: “Will the Champion Roadmap mention two new champions, or is it too early for them to appear and hit the PBE server?”
Riot Reav3: “The post will mention 2 new champions, and there will also be new champions that we haven’t mentioned yet.”

Right after this revelation from one of the key staff members of Riot Games, the League of Legends community once again has the opportunity to speculate wildly about which champion will be the next to be reworked. Many names that sound very “reasonable and convincing” have been suggested, but the champion most often mentioned is probably Shyvana, who ranked third after Volibear and Fiddlesticks in the rework voting.

I’m pretty sure it’s Shyvana. She is likely to be the winning champion if there continues to be a voting format like before, so let’s rework her now to give other champions a chance to get voted.
If it’s Shyvana, I don’t know if they will prioritize her AP build. Honestly, that is an incredibly boring and absurdly strong playstyle.
It’s extremely “toxic”, especially in ARAM.

But the target is champions not in the voting pool, right? Shyvana is in there, so if he is talking about reworking champions not in the voting pool, then it can’t be Shyvana.
Simply put: The number of champions voted does not include all champions that need upgrades, Riot does not just select the winning champions.

Kog’Maw please, this champion can only be played well with Lulu. He can’t do anything and just dies immediately when touched.
Dr. Mundo is the worst champion in the game right now.
I have to agree, once I thought about picking him but immediately gave up after realizing how clumsy he is, even when moving.
Jarvan isn’t that bad, but he looks like he comes from another game.

With the insights from Riot Reav3, we can rest assured that League of Legends will have many new characters or old champions getting reworked in the future, and it may even come in a specific roadmap. For now, there will be 2 new champions teased from before, followed by small to large upgrades of the old champions, and it’s entirely possible that Riot will unexpectedly reveal a brand new character soon as well.
