The LCK Spring Finals 2020 concluded with little surprise as Faker’s T1 easily defeated Gen.G Esports with a clean 3-0 score, successfully defending their title as the top League of Legends team in South Korea.

Even before the match began, a controversial incident arose when T1 was penalized by the LCK organizers with two bans in game 1 for arriving at the venue 30 minutes late, which left the team’s president extremely frustrated. However, this frustration likely didn’t last long, as Faker and his teammates established a dominant position over their opponents.
Despite the setback in game 1 from losing two bans, T1 clearly executed their strategic plan with Canna choosing Sylas. Gen.G Esports seemed to have prepared a multitude of compositions with champions for engaging fights and protecting their ADC, but their plan completely fell apart as Sylas appeared in all three games (twice in Canna’s hands and once in Cuzz’s).

In the first two games, T1 deployed a lineup featuring three key names: Corki in the mid lane, Varus in the bot lane, and Sylas in the top lane. In fact, in game 1, they fielded a team with three ADCs: Corki, Varus, and Graves.
T1’s damage-heavy composition completely overwhelmed Gen.G during the laning phase, allowing them to easily snowball the match. Meanwhile, Gen.G struggled to penetrate this lineup. They failed to decode the Corki – Varus duo, forcing them to ban these champions in game 3, but they left Aphelios open for Teddy, and the “farming machine” switched from farming minions to hunting down Gen.G members in game 3.

One of the notable reasons for Gen.G’s easy defeat against T1 was Clid. The former T1 jungler had a forgettable reunion facing his old teammates, as his Rek’Sai made continuous errors in game 1.
Throughout all three games, Clid fell behind in gold resources compared to Cuzz, and his ability to control major objectives and contribute in fights was significantly less impactful than that of his successor at T1.

It’s a fact that while Gen.G Esports was the top team in the regular season, they were not viewed with the same level of respect as their rivals T1, likely due to their record of two defeats against Faker and his teammates during the regular season.
T1 has officially extended their reign in the LCK with their third consecutive championship title, while Gen.G still has much to hope for, as with a talented young roster, everything is still ahead as the LCK Summer 2020 approaches.
