The LCK Spring Finals 2020 between Gen.G and T1 took place during a sensitive time but still held tremendous appeal. Many viewers, especially Perkz – the player from G2 Esports – were keenly following the match from all over the world, and the LCK organizers even contacted him for an interview to share his thoughts on the finals. When asked who would ultimately win, Perkz confidently stated that it would be T1 simply because they have Faker.
G2 Perkz: “Gen.G’s presence in the finals makes many people think they are the stronger team. However, I believe T1 is scarier than Gen.G because they have extensive experience and Faker, whom I am a huge fan of, in case anyone didn’t know. I hope T1 wins and Faker gives me a shout-out; that would be quite nice.”
And just as Perkz predicted, T1 achieved a rather swift 3-0 victory against Gen.G. Notably, in terms of skill, Faker and his teammates did not showcase too much, but the biggest difference lay in the drafting phase; one could say that T1 defeated Gen.G right after the draft with the exceptional performance of Coach Kim. Perkz expressed this sentiment on social media, claiming that the coach is the most dominant position in League of Legends.

G2 Perkz: “T1 drafted excellently to counter Azir, why is the coach such a dominant position? Honestly, Gen.G’s drafting was too poor; I firmly believe that the coach is the most dominant position in the history of League of Legends.”
G2 Jankos: “I guess we’re never going to be world champions. Watching Gen.G is quite amusing.”

Esports today is vastly different from many years ago; a successful team needs not just skilled players but also a coaching and management team that is crucial for helping players feel secure while competing. The necessity of these elements has made Esports, particularly League of Legends, increasingly professional, rather than just a game played by 10 gamers.

Undeniably, T1’s players had many moments of shining brightly in the finals, but Coach Kim’s drafting ability provided an excellent launchpad for the young players’ skills to shine. It’s a pity that MSI 2020 was canceled; otherwise, we would have witnessed many top-tier matchups, not only between players but also incredibly tense drafts from the world’s top League of Legends strategists.
