In Teamfight Tactics, having more champions on the board doesn’t always guarantee victory; many players can secure a top 1 at level 7, easily defeating those at levels 8 or 9. Therefore, to understand which compositions to play at each level, you should refer to the list of the most top 1 compositions in the world in patch 10.9:

It’s clear that the main compositions in the list include Pilot Spy, Cosmic Darius, and finally, Celestial Guardian.

Among them, the Pilot Spy composition is the most popular at level 7, with the two main carries being Kai’Sa (usually with Rageblade) and critical Shaco. Depending on the items available, players may want to activate either 2 Spies, 2 Divine, 2 Sorcerers, or 4 Spies.

The second composition is Cosmic Darius; true to its name, the main carry is Darius, who can deal double damage and has incredible lifesteal. This composition usually stops at level 7 to roll for 2-3 cost champions to reach 3 stars. The typical items for Darius are Infinity Edge, Rabadon’s Deathcap, and Guardian Angel.

Lastly, the Celestial Guardian composition is the least popular at level 7. The reason is that it requires extremely high items, with the must-have items being Chalice of Favor and Rod of Ages for the team to spam skills continuously.

At level 8, aside from some compositions upgraded from the previous ones, there are additional main compositions such as Brawler Gunner, Time Warp Kayle, Super Technology, and Vanguard Marksman.

First is the Brawler Gunner composition, which is quite basic, with main carries being Jinx along with Miss Fortune, while the frontline will be handled by the “meat shield” Brawlers.

Next is Time Warp Kayle; true to its name, Kayle will “do it all” when equipped with the full set of 3 items: Guardian Angel, Guinsoo’s Rageblade, and Rapid Firecannon, along with the activation of Divine, Duelist, and Time Warp. This composition is currently the most contested in the meta.

Following that is the Super Technology composition; most players will combine it with Time Warp Assassins (Shen + Thresh) or with Divine Gunners (Kayle + Miss Fortune). Regardless of the combination, the main carries remain Irelia and Ekko, who should have suitable offensive and defensive items.

Finally, the Vanguard Marksman composition features Jhin as the main carry dealing damage from behind the sturdy Vanguard front line. The support champions creating effects alongside will be Ashe, Lulu, and Wukong.

At level 9, you’ll notice that there are no new compositions in the list, only the addition of the 5-cost champions Lulu, Miss Fortune, and Thresh into existing compositions. Winning or losing often comes down to how you position your units. At this stage, Thresh is quite important as it can activate Assassins or Time Warp, plus its ability to pull one champion down can turn the tide of the game with just one skill, such as Cho’Gath, Blitzcrank, or Wukong…
Above is the list of the most top 1 compositions across all servers in the world for patch 10.9. You may not see some compositions like 6 Shadow, Void Brawlers, or Mystic Guardians. These are outliers in the current meta, however, they can still achieve top 1 (albeit rarely) when they have 3-star carry champions that no one is contesting.
