As you may know, after the spring tournaments concluded and MSI 2020 was officially canceled, T1’s President – Joe Marsh shared the idea of organizing an online tournament between the two regions of China and Korea to “heat up” the atmosphere while waiting for the summer split to take place.

This idea has been enthusiastically supported by the gaming community, and thousands of calls have been sent to Riot Games in hopes that the developer will approve the aforementioned idea, allowing gamers to immerse themselves in the fervent atmosphere of Esports.

Initially, President Joe Marsh’s idea was just to organize a showmatch event between the four strongest teams from the two regions; however, it seems that Riot Games has truly recognized the potential and appeal of this tournament, so it has been planned on a much larger scale than initially conceived.

According to FOMOS, the tournament’s rules and schedule have been finalized, and this China-Korea clash will be called the LCK LPL Mid-Season Event, held in an online competition format, but teams from the two regions will compete at two designated central locations in China and Korea as specified by the organizers.

Specifically, the LCK LPL Mid-Season Event will feature the participation of the eight strongest teams from the two regions:

– LCK: T1, Gen.G Esports, DragonX, and DAMWON Gaming.

– LPL: JD Gaming, TOP Esports, FunPlus Phoenix, and Invictus Gaming.

The LCK teams will gather at LoL Park, while the LPL teams will gather at TJ Sports (the arena jointly built by Riot and Tencent).

The LCK LPL Mid-Season Event will take place from May 28 to June 4.

The competition format will involve a group stage with a round-robin scoring system to determine the strongest teams advancing to the knockout rounds. Participating teams will also receive prize money, similar to official tournaments, though there will be no trophy or medals to… display.

If both Faker and Doinb agree to participate in the China-Korea event, it will surely be the most anticipated matchup

However, according to another source from Chinese media, players from the participating teams will not be obligated to compete, as this is an unofficial event.

Although it is just a showmatch tournament, clearly, looking at the list of potential participants such as Faker, Doinb, Rookie, Bdd, Clid, Teddy, Tian, TheShy, Deft, JackeyLove… along with a host of other superstars from the two top regions of League of Legends globally, this is undoubtedly an event not to be missed by Esports fans worldwide.
