With dozens of champions and traits, Teamfight Tactics offers many different compositions for players to choose from every time they enter a game. However, many players struggle to choose the right playstyle for a specific situation. A Challenger player from the North America server, known in-game as Maskoff 758, shared insights and advice on selecting the most appropriate composition and playstyle.
First, we need to understand the stages of a Teamfight Tactics game, which include the early game, mid-game, and late game. The early game is considered the phase before the Stone Golem round, then we enter the important mid-game stage of the match, and the late game is counted from the moment when more than 2 players are eliminated or when half of the players reach level 8.

Understanding the stages is extremely important as it tells you what you need to do at that moment. In the early game, you should try to lose as little health as possible; in the late game, focus on arranging your composition wisely and countering your opponents. The mid-game is when you decide how to build your composition and which units to choose to fight against your opponents.
So how do you choose the appropriate composition? According to Maskoff758, it’s best to base your decision on the items you currently have to select the most suitable composition. Here are a few examples:
If you have enough items to create Infinity Edge and Rapid Firecannon, compositions like hyper-roll Xayah, Cybernetic, or Rebels with Jinx as the carry are the most suitable.

If you have several Tear of the Goddess to combine into Archangel’s Staff and Chalice of Favor, you might consider the Star Guardian or Brawler – Void composition.
If you possess many Giant’s Belts and can combine them into a Sorcerer’s Hat or strong AP items, the “God of Supplements” Darius or Rebels with Aurelion Sol, Gangplank as the carries.

If you have too many defensive items, compositions focusing on Pilot or Candyland are the most suitable.
Finally, in the case you encounter too many Wooden Bows and manage to combine them into Guinsoo’s Rageblade early, Kayle – Timewalker or Shadow with Xerath as the primary carry is optimal.

Of course, you won’t always have perfect items to easily choose a composition; sometimes, it can be extremely mediocre. In that case, you should select based on the important champions you have to build your composition. If you notice too many Brawlers and Snipers in the shop, go ahead and play that composition even if your items would be stronger in another setup.

After determining your composition, what’s more important is how to operate it optimally. This involves a combination of observing opponents, understanding your composition, and rerolling wisely. According to Maskoff758, hyper-roll compositions only provide enough champions to reach 3 stars for 2 players, while slow roll compositions (golding 2-3 cost champions) only supply enough champions for 1 player. Therefore, if you see 2 others trying to play a similar composition, it’s best to switch.
With hyper-roll, you will never level up and will roll down to 10 or run out of money at round 3-1 to find your 3 star units. This is because you remain at level 4 and have a 60% chance of rolling 1-cost champions, which increases the rate of upgrading the most crucial units of your composition. The strongest current hyper-roll compositions are Shredder (hyper-roll Xayah, Jarvan IV, Caitlyn) and Candyland (hyper-roll Poppy, Twisted Fate, Zoe).

Slow roll compositions do not require spending all your money early, but you still need to roll extensively for key units at 2 or 3 cost to reach 3 stars. If you choose a composition with a 2-cost carry (Space Jam with Darius), you need to save gold and level up to 6, then continuously roll down to 50 gold each round until you find Darius at 3 stars.
A similar playstyle composition is Pilot – Spy, which also requires a lot of rolling for the 2-cost units Annie and Kai’Sa to reach 3 stars. If you complete your 2-cost units at 3 stars early, you should find a way to level up to 7 and continue the rolling process until the 3-cost champions are ‘gold-ified’. If someone is also contesting with you, it’s best to find a way to level up to 8 and think of a late-game strategy.

With these insights, hopefully Teamfight Tactics players will find the most suitable playstyle based on the game situation and minimize unnecessary losses.
