Riot Makes Significant Changes in League of Legends

Recently, in a latest announcement, Riot officially confirmed that the Hextech Chest system will be removed from League of Legends in the near future, along with the Prestige Chest. For those who may not know, the Hextech Chest is one of the longest-standing mechanics in League of Legends and has been closely tied to the development journey of this game. It is also seen as the “mystery bag” of the League of Legends community.

According to Riot, the removal of the Hextech Chest is to prevent it from affecting the future development of League of Legends.

A representative from Riot stated: “When we introduced this mechanism into the game, we wanted it to be a reward for the time players spent. But over time, the ability to acquire free skins from Chests became the main goal, causing players to be less willing to spend money on the game. This is not very beneficial for the long-term development of League of Legends.”

With the removal of the Hextech Chest system, players will now be required to spend money to acquire in-game items, from Ward Skins to Champion Skins, including both cheap and expensive skins.

League of Legends Community Outraged

Not only in Vietnam but the entire League of Legends community is extremely surprised, and some have even uninstalled League of Legends immediately. According to many arguments, instead of Riot creating opportunities for gamers to “spend money comfortably,” they have removed free mechanics. From now on, grinding the game will lose much of its meaning as rewards have been restricted or disappeared.

Furthermore, in recent times, Riot has also implemented a gacha feature on some of the more expensive skins in the game, causing the prices of these skin lines to rise higher than usual. Therefore, with the additional move to eliminate Hextech Chests, League of Legends players are currently quite upset with Riot’s policies for a game that was once their “darling.”
