“Kick him out, let him go study for the university entrance exam” is a legend, an annual event that has been ongoing for several years within the Vietnamese gaming community. It originated from the fact that many 12th-grade students were preparing for their university entrance exams but still frequently “lurking” on social media, leading many forums, fan pages, and even gaming groups to boldly declare: Ban these young individuals from continuing to engage in activities or play video games for a period.

This tradition has been upheld by the DOTA 2 community since the generation born in 1995 until now, and as summer has begun, so has exam season. Without delay, and certainly without mercy, the “kick 2k2 kids” campaign was officially implemented two days ago. This can be seen as an admirable “traditional trend” of the DOTA 2 community during exam season.

According to many sources, there will be many large-scale “member filtering” sessions occurring over several days to ensure that the number of kids “sent to the island” is as close to reality as possible. Whether it is personal information, the suffix “2k2”, or any suspicious comments, all will be verified, and with the motto “better safe than sorry”, a multitude of accounts in the DOTA 2 group system in Vietnam have officially disappeared without a chance to say goodbye.

Of course, since this is an annual tradition, members born in 2002 who are about to face many important exams understand their duty, being kicked out with a very comfortable mindset. In fact, with a high sense of self-awareness and the bonds of friendship, “sharing both the blessings and the burdens”, some gamers even tagged their classmates to disappear together.

All these actions, above all, are aimed at helping the kids safely return home to study and secure a better future when applying to prestigious schools. The upcoming 2020 exam is around the corner and promises to be challenging; we hope that the examinees will focus more on their studies and then “comeback” to the groups with excitement and great victories.
Perhaps DOTA 2 is the oldest gamer community in Vietnam and often initiates many very special movements. Like meme creation, relationship advice, low-budget cosplay… that receive countless attention. However, the most peculiar is the movement of kicking out members who are of exam age as mentioned above. While other groups are actively recruiting members, DOTA 2 has taken a very… humanitarian action like this.

For those who may not know, the national high school exam this year will take place from July 23 to 26. The end of the school year has been pushed back to June 30. Compared to last year, the organization of the national high school exam in 2020 is nearly one month delayed, corresponding to the time students were out of school due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, besides delaying the organization time, the national high school exam in 2020 will basically remain stable compared to 2019. Specifically, the exam aims to accurately assess the learning outcomes of students after 12 years of education at the high school level, ensuring honest, objective evaluations that accurately reflect students’ levels and abilities, providing reliability and differentiation for high school graduation recognition for candidates.
