In the first match of the LPL Summer 2020 currently taking place, the Chinese gaming community witnessed a “quake” as Victory Five surprisingly secured a 2-0 victory against Dominus Esports.
In fact, these are not two names that attracted much attention even from the majority of Chinese audiences; however, this match marks an extremely memorable milestone for Victory Five, one of the teams that was widely known in Vietnam for almost becoming the new home for VCS’s number one star – Zeros.
Specifically, V5’s 2-0 victory over DMO ended a 306-day streak of not knowing the taste of victory for this team in the professional arena. Prior to the clash with Dominus, the last time Victory Five secured a win at LPL was on August 5, 2019, during the LPL Summer 2019 tournament, against SofM’s LNG Esports.
After that, they went through a streak of 18 consecutive losses, including the last 2 matches in LPL Summer 2019 and all 16 matches in the LPL Spring 2020 group stage. Interestingly, in the recent spring season, V5 had an extremely poor statistic, losing 32 games while winning only 1. And quite amusingly, the “victim” that suffered the only defeat against Victory Five was once again LNG Esports.

Entering the summer tournament, V5 underwent many personnel changes, the most notable being the addition of Korean AD carry – SamD, a former trainee of Gen.G Esports. This rookie became a crucial factor in helping V5 achieve an unexpected victory right in their opening match.
Victory Five is indeed a quite interesting case, as their name means Victory, but the concept of winning has been something quite luxurious for this team. Nevertheless, V5’s transformation in the first match of LPL Summer 2020 can be considered a promising sign that brings many dramatic and surprising developments for the audience.
