It can be said that when we mention AoE Vietnam, we refer to the “specialty” called Random. The ever-changing Random matches are an essential spiritual dish for the Vietnamese Age of Empires community over nearly 20 years.
Despite its fame, there has never been a tournament in the history of AoE Vietnam that has managed to include all 4 Random formats as the Bé Yêu Cup 2020 does, which includes Solo Random, 2v2 Random, 3v3 Random, and 4v4 Random.
This can be seen as a tournament that honors the essence of AoE Vietnam, as all 4 Random formats, including the new 3v3 Random, are included. This is an effort to increase the competitiveness and appeal of the organizing unit, Ego. Not including the stronger formats where Chim Sẻ Đi Nắng has been unrivaled shows a commitment to developing the community and creating a more competitive tournament from the host organization.
The tournament promises many surprises due to its unique draw format
This is perhaps the most controversial aspect in public opinion and the AoE community. Right after the draw results were announced, many viewers felt that not seeding would lead to many big names facing each other too early, potentially diminishing the tournament’s quality.
This is understandable; however, looking at the bigger picture, the organizing committee of Bé Yêu Cup 2020 has been brave in implementing this format. The use of the term ‘brave’ is warranted because this is the first time in a major tournament like Bé Yêu Cup 2020 that the organizing committee has taken the risk of not seeding, resulting in epic matchups or “death groups.” This allows less-known or semi-professional players the opportunity to showcase themselves in a major tournament like Bé Yêu Cup 2020.
The tournament gathers both old and current stars
Bé Yêu Cup 2020 is also a rare tournament where players from all generations gather like this. This success comes from the excellent preparation and communication by the organizing committee before the tournament.
It would be amazing if in one tournament, we could see legends from the past, such as Tiểu Bạch Long, Long Thiếu Gia, and 9x Pro, competing alongside the current masters of the Vietnamese AoE community like Chim Sẻ Đi Nắng, BiBi, and Hồng Anh.
