Although “The Great Sage” has had his damage reduced, his durability and especially his ultimate ability that knocks up twice has made Wukong an incredibly hot pick in the professional scene.
However, the creativity of pro players doesn’t stop there; they have taken this champion to new heights by bringing Wukong down to the bot lane and pairing him with an equally “toxic” playstyle of Senna with the Undying Power. This duo offers comprehensive offensive and defensive capabilities with abundant damage, good mobility, and multiple options to attack opponents. In the current meta, the strongest marksmen like Aphelios and Varus are not particularly mobile; their strength lies in their ability to maintain distance, so pure tank champions are not enough to counter them. Instead, Wukong’s ability to dash straight into opponents, along with a quick dash from his W – Decoy, makes it difficult for enemy marksmen to escape.
Of course, Wukong alone is not enough as he can be countered by the enemy Support, and Senna is the perfect choice to supplement damage if needed, while also healing and immobilizing opponents. Additionally, Senna’s playstyle of not farming and poking is still too strong, allowing you to give resources to Wukong while remaining powerful yourself.
In terms of runes and item builds, there isn’t much difference as Wukong still uses the Conqueror rune and builds towards the Trinity Force and Death’s Dance of a traditional Fighter. In terms of specific gameplay, this duo is quite weak in the early game before level 6 as they lack execution capabilities and can easily be kited by opponents. Therefore, be sure to purchase defensive items like Doran’s Shield to ensure survival and farm as much as possible. As soon as they reach level 6 with a high-damage ultimate, this duo will be much stronger and can turn the tide of team fights.
After the laning phase, Wukong will play similarly to a top lane player, split pushing when possible and looking for ways to teleport to interrupt opponents.
