Originating from a joke by commentators, the nickname “Pelu” has gradually become closely associated with commentator Hoàng Luân as his predictions tend to miss more often than hit. This name has even turned into a brand in the VCS, with players using it as a kind of “spiritual weapon” to pray for good luck before each match.

Just to illustrate, Froggy from Saigon Buffalo performed some sort of “spell” that led his team to a 2-0 victory over Percent Esports last week. It seems that seeing this method work, before yesterday’s match between Percent Esports and Team Secret, Marksman Bigkoro also posted a picture of himself praying before Pelu, leaving gamers in fits of laughter. Some even lamented that the VCS now resembles an extended spiritual tournament.

Although we call commentator Hoàng Luân “Pelu”, we must be fair to him as he doesn’t always predict the opposite of the results. Just a few days ago, he stated that Team Flash would win against EVOS Esports, and as everyone knows, the “White Tiger” suffered defeat against the reigning VCS champions after an emotional match.

Basically, the VCS still remains the number one League of Legends tournament in Vietnam; winning or losing will depend on the strength of the team, the players’ performance, and the tactical execution. Sometimes we are surprised and find it hard to believe that an underdog team wins, looking for something like “Pelu’s prediction” to explain it, inadvertently denying the efforts of the players. Perhaps things like “spirituality” or “Pelu” should just remain at the level of a joke.
