A few days ago, Riot Games published a post about system updates for League of Legends in the upcoming patch 10.15. In addition to increasing penalties for actions like excessive feeding and AFK, another controversial announcement is that Riot will remove the rank limit for teams playing in flexible ranked matches.

Announcement from Riot Games: “We are very excited to introduce this update to flexible ranked mode starting from patch 10.15! After seeing the success of having no rank limits in the Clash mode, we will apply the same to dynamic rank. Find matches with friends without worrying too much about their ranks. In short, we think that expanding the rank limit is better for finding good matches for a group of players who want to test their skills.”

The ranking system in League of Legends always limits the rank difference among team members, aiming to minimize the “smurfing” situation and skill disparity when climbing ranks. However, with this update from Riot Games, they have opened a loophole for players who “boost” and “rank rescue” because there are no longer any rank limits, and the scenario where a match becomes a stage for 1-2 players will return.

Remember that Clash only takes place within a certain timeframe, and the rewards are team game experiences and gifts from Clash boxes. Meanwhile, flexible ranked still gives you a high rank to enhance your profile, you still receive all the end-of-season rewards as usual, and most importantly, it lasts for a long time. Therefore, when this announcement reached gamers, many were concerned that Dynamic Rank would fall into a situation of “already torn, now even worse.”

I hope the matchmaking system of dynamic rank will be good.
I don’t see it that way, really. The win rates might be equal, but there are too many games with disparities among players.

Dynamic rank is now extremely bad and it won’t get any better with this change. Matches will end up being dominated by whatever side crushes the lower-ranked players.

Dynamic rank will become a normal draft pick.
Currently, the matchmaking system of dynamic rank is extremely poor. It’s only slightly better than normal games and equivalent to normal draft pick, if not worse. Basically, Silver rank players will face off against High Master rank players, five solo players will face a five-man team, and much more. Riot acts like dynamic rank is not a joke.
