The summer season of League of Legends has witnessed an absolute dominance from many names across 6 major tournaments, with DragonX, TOP Esports, Cloud9, J Team, and CERBERUS Esports being the teams that maintained an undefeated streak throughout the early stage of the season.
However, in just the past week, the landscape has changed entirely, as a series of major teams around the world have continuously “fallen.” J Team suffered a defeat against PSG Talon, ending their undefeated streak at 9, while DragonX, Cloud9, and most recently TOP Esports have all faced defeats against lower-ranked teams.
Most recently, TOP Esports has become yet another victim in the transformative journey of Victory 5 – the team that holds the record for the most losses in the spring tournament, unexpectedly “rising” and currently holding a top position in the rankings, adding to their achievements by defeating championship contender TES.
Thus, in just the first half of July, all the undefeated kings of the summer tournament across the 6 major leagues have fallen, leaving only one name remaining: CERBERUS Esports from VCS.
In their recent match against Saigon Buffalo, CES surprisingly fell behind and suffered their first defeat in VCS Summer 2020 after fielding a lineup consisting of many substitute players in game 1. However, they still showcased their overwhelming strength in games 2 and 3 to secure their sixth consecutive victory of the season.

Looking at the entire professional League of Legends tournament system, there are only 2 other names that are still maintaining an undefeated streak alongside CES: V3 Esports from Japan (LJL Summer 2020) and Unicorns of Love from Eastern Europe (LJL Summer 2020), both with a record of 8 consecutive wins.
As for CERBERUS, their undefeated streak will face a significant challenge when they clash against GAM Esports – a relatively tough opponent. However, if the Cerberus continues to showcase their strength against Levi and his teammates, then it will be time for them to boldly declare their ambition for the VCS summer 2020 crown as the number 1 contender.
