With its accessible gameplay, friendly character designs, and not too many confusing mechanics, League of Legends is considered a game that suits new gamers perfectly. This has been one of League of Legends’ strengths in competing with other games and gradually becoming a globally popular title.

However, with the development of the game, League of Legends has gradually lost this quality as it has become a terrible experience for first-time players. Riot Games is partly responsible for this, but the majority of the blame lies with the community; the veteran players are making League of Legends unfriendly for newcomers.

A new player shared their “tearful” experience with League of Legends, leaving many shaking their heads in dismay at the game’s toxicity.

This game is the worst experience for new players that I have ever encountered. What the hell is going on with this community?
I am a new League of Legends player, starting after watching a few streamers and some LCS matches, thinking the game was quite good, but that was a real mistake.
My first match was a 3v5 because two players just stood at the Nexus and jumped around. Meanwhile, the opponents had Kayn and Tristana, each with 40 kills, but they didn’t want to end the game, while my team didn’t want to surrender, and they kept tormenting me for 50 minutes until I quit the game.
After that, I asked a friend to help, and everything got better; he played well and gave me some tips. Then I tried to play by myself, but every game was ruined. The players on the opposing team were way better than my skill level, while my teammates yelled at me for my summoner spell and rune choices. When I said I was a new player, they told me to uninstall the game and go kill myself.
I am extremely sensitive, and it made me very uncomfortable; some even added me just to insult me, even though I had only played the game for 10 hours. Why are people like this? I just want to have fun playing games. Maybe I will quit and just watch tournaments or streams. The opponents were even nicer than my teammates.

Whether a game is friendly to new players, especially online games, does not just depend on complex gameplay or not, but also on whether the community treats them well. MOBA games like League of Legends and DOTA2 are extremely competitive, and winning or losing affects players’ emotions significantly. When a completely new player enters your game, they become a weak point and increase your chances of losing, leading to the aforementioned toxic situation.

Perhaps Riot Games should find a way to solve this issue, such as creating a separate queue for players below level 20.
