The harsh reality of the meta in Teamfight Tactics is clearly shown through each new update, as compositions once fiercely contested are now mercilessly “abandoned” by the majority of players. If you don’t have “infinite luck,” it’s best to avoid the following compositions to prevent a rank drop:
“Thief’s Guild” Composition

Known by the community with a rather interesting name, the current status of the “Thief’s Guild” composition is “not good enough to compete with the top, and looking down… there’s no one there.” With its ability to “hack gold and items,” this composition once ruled Teamfight Tactics across many updates, regardless of the server.
Currently, not only is the “Thief’s Guild” composition generally underused, but Gangplank in particular is also extremely rare. The reason is that this composition requires too much time to reach its power threshold (it needs a 5-cost champion like Gangplank and many rounds to collect items dropped by the Thieves), while the current meta favors strong early-game champions like Xayah, Jarvan, Syndra, and Jhin – all of whom are extremely strong carries during the mid-game stages.
Ziggs Explosive Charge Composition

Ziggs with Blue Buff + Sorcerer’s Hat was once a champion capable of snowballing extremely well from the early game thanks to his high-quality skill spam. Targets hit by Ziggs would almost be knocked out dead when he activated Explosive Charge. At this point, Ziggs could secure a winning streak, level up early, and choose a composition with late-game carries around Rebels (Jinx, Aurelion Sol, Master Yi) or around Explosive Charge combined with Thieves thanks to Gangplank.
However, in recent updates, the removal of the Explosive Charge item has caused this composition to lose its previous standing. This has made both Ziggs, Rumble, and Gangplank lose their potential synergy with other champions. Furthermore, with Blue Buff and one AP item, players are more likely to prioritize the “overpowered” champion Syndra instead of this Explosive Charge specialist, thus leading to Ziggs being “abandoned” is inevitable.
Pilot Composition

Since Kai’Sa and the Saint have been removed from Teamfight Tactics, the Pilot composition has weakened significantly. However, with an engaging playstyle combining with Spies, the trio of Pilot Annie, Rumble, and Fizz is still trusted and used by many players after the mid-season major update. The typical composition often seen is 4 Pilots and 2 Spies, with Zed as the main carry equipped with items like Infinity Edge, Rapid Firecannon, and Guardian Angel.
Yet in the current meta, the Pilot composition has lost even its already shaky standing. Many believe that the Super Soldier Garen is even weaker than… the 1-cost champion Jarvan in the current meta. Additionally, the 4 Spies can easily be wiped out by Syndra’s “ball shots,” not to mention that Garen can be easily taken down by strong carries in the meta like Shaco, Jhin, or Xayah.
Space Ranger Marksman Composition

In the most recent updates, Teemo activated with Space Ranger is still an incredibly formidable force, capable of spamming skills to take down enemies continuously. With such strength, this composition can also “hack experience” with Bard to reach level 9, gaining both experience and roll returns – a double benefit.
However, in the current meta, perhaps due to the rise of other compositions, Space Ranger has been pushed down from the top compositions. Even though Teemo has not been weakened in the latest update, this champion is still underutilized. Unless you’re “forced to play” it, it’s best to avoid using Teemo as well as Space Ranger.
