Placing All Tanks in the Front Line
For players with a too rigid approach to team arrangement, they will default to placing all tanks in the front line. In this case, your backline will face the risk of being targeted by Assassins or Phantoms from the enemy team jumping in and taking them out. Meanwhile, the tanks are occupied by the enemy’s frontline. In that situation, your chances of losing will be extremely high.

Therefore, you should place at least 1 tank in the backline to protect the carry. That unit will buy more time for your carry to take down the initial target and then attack the enemy’s Assassins or Phantoms. For example, if you are using a Spirit team, Thresh should be placed in the backline along with the carries. Thresh’s ability to create shields is an extremely annoying tool to counter Assassins or Phantoms.

Grouping the Team in One Corner
Typically, players tend to place their carries in the corner of the battlefield to minimize their movement. Gradually, as they have more units, players will push the entire team into one corner to maximize protection for that carry. However, this arrangement is no different from a “self-destruct” move at the end of the match when facing many champions with area-of-effect skills. Those champions like Ahri, Azir, Sejuani… become more powerful with such a setup.

The advice here is that players need to spread their team a bit to reduce the amount of damage taken from area-of-effect skills. To do this, ensure there are no surviving Assassins or Phantoms left. Also, never place tanks too close to the carries, as this will only lead to the frontline being taken down faster.

Being Lazy to Move the Formation
The cause of this mistake also stems from a too rigid team arrangement. Many players learn a guide online and only place the pieces according to a single formation template. However, in a Teamfight Tactics match, many unexpected situations can arise. If you don’t change the team positioning, your chances of losing will increase significantly. This is even more true if you rank up to higher levels.

At ranks from Platinum and above, players have learned to observe opponents and utilize counter items. Items like Spear of Shojin, Cloak of Stillness, or Trap Claw can change the outcome of a round if used correctly. There’s nothing worse than having your full-item Sett unit knocked up by the Spear of Shojin, right? So be sure to closely observe the formations and items of your opponents to avoid unnecessary losses.
