It can be said that the “funnel” strategy involving the champions Master Yi and Taric is one of the most annoying playstyles in League of Legends. Although Riot Games has attempted to nerf this strategy, it still persists, even helping many players rank up extremely quickly. Even at high ranks (from Diamond II and above), this strategy proves to be too powerful and frustrating for many gamers.
It seems that the community is tired of the Master Yi – Taric strategy and has called for changes to make this playstyle less powerful. Specifically, League of Legends players believe that Riot should remove the interaction between Master Yi’s Alpha Strike and Taric’s Dauntless. Another issue is that the gold received by Taric in the mid lane also needs to be nerfed.
Riot needs to address the issue of the “funnel” strategy
Honestly, the funnel strategy is still a major issue at ranks Diamond and above. No one wants to face this strategy as the Master Yi – Taric duo has almost no counters, at least in solo queue. It allows many players to rank up far too easily and is unfair to others. I believe Riot needs to do something to eliminate this playstyle, here are a few suggestions.
Remove the interaction between Alpha Strike and Dauntless. This is the easiest solution as it only affects the Master Yi and Taric combo. The strength of this strategy comes from the fact that when these two abilities are used, the opponent is guaranteed to be stunned and that target will be taken down very quickly. Riot should make it so that when Master Yi uses Alpha Strike, it breaks the connection between these two champions.
Limit each team to buy only 1 support item. I think this will prevent Taric from easily buying support items to go mid and funnel gold to Master Yi. Another solution is to reduce the gold gained from the support item by half when more than 1 player buys this item.
The greatest strength of the “funnel” strategy is that it allows Master Yi to become strong at an incredibly early stage. In addition to farming the jungle, Master Yi will gain a significant amount of gold from mid lane minions thanks to Taric buying support items. This makes Master Yi’s snowball effect in the game extremely fast, leaving opponents with no way to counter.
Furthermore, Taric’s excellent protection allows Master Yi to easily dive towers, take down enemy champions, and finish the game. With just a simple combo of Dauntless combined with Alpha Strike, this duo can easily stun and eliminate targets. Clearly, in a solo queue environment, where players lack good communication, countering this strategy is nearly impossible.
Perhaps it is time for Riot Games to take stronger measures to nerf the Master Yi – Taric strategy. If not, many players will find ways to abuse this playstyle to rank up far too easily in the near future.
