Teamfight Tactics: 3 Times Riot Left Players Disappointed with Trailers That Were Far from Reality

Aurelion Sol proves to be the most unfortunate champion as he was removed from the official roster twice by the Teamfight Tactics development team.

Aurelion Sol Season 2

If you remember, prior to the official launch of Teamfight Tactics Season 2, Riot Games introduced the appearance of Aurelion Sol. Alongside Veigar and Vladimir, champions from the Mage class, Aurelion Sol was expected to be an incredibly powerful magic damage dealer in Season 2. We need to recall that in Season 1, Aurelion Sol was already a dominant champion in the Sorcerer lineup.

However, the reality is that Aurelion Sol did not appear when Teamfight Tactics Season 2 officially launched. Instead, the strongest champion of the Mage lineup turned out to be Brand. Considering the tribe – class that Aurelion Sol could belong to is Fire – Mage, this champion could have become extremely unbalanced. Just the ability for Aurelion Sol to cast spells twice would be more than enough for him to dominate the meta. Perhaps this is why Riot decided to remove this unit from Season 2.

Neeko Season 3

In reality, Neeko was not removed from the official champion roster by Riot Games like Aurelion Sol. However, this champion in the Season 3 trailer had a much more attractive appearance compared to the official version. Specifically, in the gameplay introduction video by Riot, Neeko appeared in the Prestige Star Guardian skin. However, when the Season 3 champion roster was officially revealed, this champion only wore the regular Star Guardian skin.

Of course, this change did not affect Neeko’s strength as she remains an important unit in the Star Guardian – Sorcerer lineup. This unit is responsible for crowd control so that the damage dealers can inflict damage. Perhaps being the only Prestige skin in the Star Guardian group made Riot feel Neeko was a bit “out of place” compared to the other units. Therefore, they decided to let Neeko use the regular Star Guardian skin in the official version.

Shyvana and Aurelion Sol Season 5

About a month ago, Riot Games introduced us to the Dragon Tribe for Season 5. Among them, champions like Shyvana and Aurelion Sol also appeared. In fact, the Dragon Girl even used her Dragon Transformation ability in that video. However, when the Season 5 champion roster was announced, these two characters were completely absent, leaving many players disappointed.

Every time Teamfight Tactics launches a new season, Riot aims to change the gameplay of this title, from the equipment system to the champions’ skills. The fact that Shyvana and Aurelion Sol might have skills, or even class – tribe, similar to the recently concluded Season 4 goes against Riot’s objectives. This may be the biggest reason why Riot removed these two champions from the Season 5 character roster despite having them appear in the previous trailer.
