League of Legends: Even After 9 Years, Kayle Still Has a Bug Allowing Divine Shield to Be Used on Defeated Champions

Despite undergoing a complete rework, Kayle still suffers from the aforementioned bug.

For video games in general, bugs are an inseparable part. It is the responsibility of game developers to fix these bugs as soon as possible. League of Legends is no exception, as this game has witnessed strange interactions and champions creating numerous bugs. Viego is the latest example of the “buggy” champion concept in League of Legends.

As mentioned above, game developers, specifically here Riot, are responsible for fixing bugs in their beloved creation. If they cannot find the bugs themselves, players and the gaming community are always ready to help improve League of Legends. However, the “Bug God” Vandiril discovered that a bug that has existed since 2012 with the champion Kayle has still not been fixed as of 2021.

Specifically, in 2012, players discovered that Kayle’s ultimate had a severe bug allowing it to be cast on a champion that had already been defeated. However, this bug only occurred when the champion receiving Divine Shield had effects active after being downed, in this case, Kog’Maw’s passive. Fast forward to 2021, this bug reappeared when Kayle used her ultimate on Jinx who had Guardian Angel. Remember that Kayle underwent a rework in 2019, yet this bug still persists.

The absurd point here is that if Kayle’s ultimate is successfully used, that champion should not be defeated as quickly as seen in the above video. The reason is that Kayle’s Divine Shield would protect allies from all types of damage. This means that the champion cannot die during the effect of this skill. If the ally was defeated beforehand, Kayle’s ultimate should not have been cast.

Some comments under Vandiril’s video suggest that this bug stems from some conflict in League of Legends’ code. It could be that when champions possess skills or items that provide effects after being downed, the game’s code still considers that character as “alive”. Hence, Kayle can still cast her ultimate on that champion despite them being defeated.

According to comments from “Bug God” Vandiril, the aforementioned bug caused the red team to lose the match because Jinx did not survive long enough to deal damage. Essentially, this bug directly impacted the outcome of a match and unjustly penalized 5 players’ rankings. Hopefully, after the above video was posted, Riot Games will find a way to fix this “age-old” bug as soon as possible.
