Recently, Riot Games has continued its journey of “draining the wallets” of players by unveiling 4 new skins under the Astronaut theme for champions Maokai, Corki, Rammus, and Veigar.
However, even though the designs of the new “Astronauts” have received high praise for their creativity, they had to take a backseat to the new Prestige skin – Prestige: Zed. This is the next Prestige skin to be released in 2021, following Prestige: Sylas. And of course, with Zed’s existing popularity, it’s no surprise that the Astronaut skins lost all the spotlight.
Astronaut Maokai
Astronaut Maokai is inspired by research activities focused on plant life in space. The interesting design of this skin suggests it might be a mutated product from scientific experiments, something commonly seen in space-themed movies.
Astronaut Corki
Clearly, a pilot-themed champion like Corki cannot miss a spot in adventurous skin lines like Astronaut. It’s easy to see that Astronaut Corki draws inspiration from shuttle designs, and this skin also features a recall effect that simulates the process of launching a spacecraft into space – one of humanity’s proudest achievements in the 20th century.
Astronaut Rammus
The original design of Rammus doesn’t quite fit with the Astronaut suit, perhaps Riot Games drew inspiration from the concept of material instability in the universe with this champion’s ultimate ability to create the Astronaut Rammus skin. The design might not be the most outstanding, but the skill effects are definitely “worth every penny”.
Astronaut Veigar
Veigar will pair up with Rammus in the new Astronaut skin line. Besides the protective suit, this champion has also had his entire skill effects revamped. Instead of dark energy blasts, Astronaut Veigar will throw aliens and flying saucers at his enemies.
Prestige: Zed – Prestige Skin
True to Riot’s promise, the Prestige skin line has now been upgraded in terms of visuals, and no longer just simple “gold-plated multi-colored” skins. For Prestige: Zed, this skin has undergone almost a complete redesign compared to the regular version. The shapes of the armor, mask, and sword have all been updated to fit the 2021 Prestige theme, and of course, the skill effects are designed to be incredibly eye-catching.
