Teamfight Tactics: 3 Currently Useless Items Set to Get a Complete Overhaul in Season 5.5

Riot Games has revamped the following items in Teamfight Tactics Season 5.5 to make them more useful.

Infinity Edge

With the introduction of the Reaver’s Claw, the current uselessness of the Infinity Edge has become apparent. Providing only one of two effects, either healing or attack stats per round, has left champions wielding Infinity Edge lacking stability in power. Instead of using this item, players will gravitate towards the Reaver’s Claw for both effects, ensuring comprehensive strength for their carry. As a result, Infinity Edge has been overlooked by players in Season 5.

Even Yasuo in Season 5 no longer relies on Infinity Edge as much as he did in Season 4

However, everything will change in the upcoming Season 5.5 as this item will receive a rework. Instead of providing just one of the two effects, Infinity Edge will now always grant champions both healing and attack stats. The randomness of this item will still exist, as one of the two effects will be enhanced more in each round. This change significantly increases the value of Infinity Edge, enabling champions to have balanced offensive and defensive capabilities.

Dragon Claw

To put it bluntly, this is one of the worst items in Season 5 as it only provides magic resistance. Therefore, for teams that deal strong physical damage, Dragon Claw offers little meaning in improving your champions’ durability. This item is even worse than its Dark version, as the Dark Claw at least has the added effect of countering critical damage from opponents.

The poor performance of Dragon Claw in Season 5 is also the reason why magic damage carries are too strong in the current meta

Due to its shortcomings, in the upcoming Season 5.5, Dragon Claw will be reworked to focus on adding damage to teams. Specifically, when a champion using Dragon Claw receives true damage or magic damage from skills, the attacking enemy will take damage equal to 25% of their maximum health. This change will provide players with more effective counters against magic damage carries in the backline such as Vel’Koz, Karma, or Zyra.

Giant Slayer

One of the weaknesses of Giant Slayer in Season 5 is that this item only accumulates stacks when champions deal critical damage or receive damage. Conversely, champions only gain a small amount of attack damage and skill damage, and at maximum stacks, they receive increased armor/magic resistance. With the stacking conditions being too difficult but the power gained not being sufficient, Giant Slayer has gradually been overlooked by players in Teamfight Tactics Season 5.

Players often prefer to combine the Dark version of Giant Slayer to boost damage for some melee carries

This is set to change as Riot removes the critical damage condition for stacking this item. Instead, simply attacking a target will allow champions to gain additional stacks of increased attack damage and skill damage. This change is expected to be significant, making Giant Slayer suitable for strong carry champions in the mid-game. Names like Riven, Yasuo, and Nidalee are set to become incredibly powerful when wielding Giant Slayer in Season 5.5.

With simpler stacking conditions, Giant Slayer in Season 5.5 is expected to become a hot item
