With G2 Esports officially securing a spot in the LEC Summer 2021 Playoffs, they have quite a bit of time to rest and prepare for their quest to “reclaim the throne.” Recently, Mikyx – the support player of G2, also had the opportunity to answer a press interview regarding the overall state of League of Legends as the 2021 season comes to a close.
In front of the media, this guy made quite a few candid remarks about the strength of various regions.

According to Mikyx, the LPL region in China can still be considered a model and a strong candidate for the world championship. They have progressed year by year, and although they lost the championship title to DAMWON Gaming, the LPL clearly possesses a higher overall quality in the tournament.
They have many stronger teams, and if they don’t end up in a “brotherly conflict” like in 2020 (TES, JDG, and SN being in the same bracket), then LCK would also struggle to defend their throne, as only DK seems to possess significantly superior strength at last year’s World Championship.
Additionally, Mikyx also made a remark that could spark quite a bit of controversy. This veteran support player stated that he does not hold the quality of players in the LCK’s bottom lane in high regard:
“I feel that the bottom lane of LCK is worse than that of LEC and LPL. I’m really not impressed by any names in that position. In the LPL, there are many excellent bottom lane players, and in the LEC, you can also find some outstanding names. So I think they (LCK) are a bit behind us in terms of the bot lane. But at least DK’s bot duo has played quite well (in the match where DK beat DRX 2-0). They can perform adequately if they are in good form. T1 also has a pretty quality bottom lane. The top tier would probably be Gen.G’s bot duo. I think they are the best.”

There are some interesting details as G2 also experienced personnel changes in the bottom lane this season. At the beginning of 2020, they decided to let Perkz go and brought in a “top-tier” ADC, Rekkles, but as a result, G2 lost the LEC championship after 2 years of dominance, while Perkz claimed the LCS title in his very first season in that league.
Moreover, Mikyx’s G2 was also defeated by the duo Ghost – BeryL at the recent 2020 World Championship. However, Mikyx’s assessment is quite justified. DWG won the 2020 World Championship with the standout performances of three players: Nuguri, Canyon, and ShowMaker. Ghost and BeryL are certainly not bad, and it can even be said that BeryL made a significant mark at last year’s tournament with his signature Pantheon support, but Ghost is still seen as an ADC lacking impact and consistency.

Furthermore, based on current performances, the bottom lane is indeed a weak point for DK. In the 2021 MSI Finals, the disadvantage of Ghost – BeryL against GALA – Ming (RNG) was considered the main reason for DK’s defeat against the LPL representative. And if compared to the names that could potentially participate in the World Championship from the Chinese region, DK’s bot duo also struggles to surpass any of the teams currently in the top 6 of the LPL.
