Until the very last rounds, the race for a Playoff spot in the LPL Summer 2021 remained incredibly intense, with each match directly affecting the current top 10 standings. One of the highlight matches that was “make or break” was the clash between OMG vs LGD.
In this match, LGD had to defeat OMG with a score of 2-0 to have a chance to enter the Playoffs. Meanwhile, OMG only needed to win by any score to secure their spot. Not only that, but they also inadvertently pulled Suning into the next round.
Since positions from top 7 to top 13 theoretically had a chance, even though OMG and SN had a high probability of making it to the Playoffs, they still had to play cautiously in the remaining matches. However, this situation finally ended on the 6th day of the 8th week of competition.
Earlier, FPX defeated JDG with a score of 2-0, and recently, OMG also took down LGD with the same score. At the moment LGD lost game 1 in the matchup against OMG, SN officially became the “beneficiary” as LGD could no longer equalize the score differential with the teams in the top 10 and was officially eliminated, meaning Suning (currently in 8th place) could not… fall out of the top 10.
The only task remaining for SofM and his teammates is to strive for victory in the last 2 matches to improve their standings. Because if they can just climb into the top 6, SN can go straight to the second round of the Playoffs without having to play the first round, which is a significant advantage as they think about their dream of participating in the 2021 World Championship.
