In the early hours of August 23 (Vietnam time), G2 Esports faced a decisive match against Fnatic. Not only was it to continue their journey in the LEC Summer 2021 championship, but it was also the last ticket to the 2021 World Championship. Unfortunately, the 2019 World Championship runner-up could not complete their mission, falling 1-3 to their long-time rivals. In the end, Rekkles and his teammates had to watch from home as their opponents advanced to China.
After G2’s embarrassing defeat, Fnatic fans on Reddit unexpectedly dug up some clips and photos from when Adam – Fnatic’s top player – was still competing for KC. Specifically, Adam had some standout performances in the KC colors at the LFL (France’s League of Legends second division), and he and the KC team even received congratulations from the President of France. However, during an interview when asked about Adam, Wunder stated: “[…] Adam is still not in the top 3 top laners of EUM… for me, there’s nothing special about him.”
In fact, Wunder was not very enthusiastic about scrimming with Adam either. According to revelations from Adam and Fnatic fans, even when Fnatic’s top player was still wearing the KC jersey, Wunder engaged in game-breaking behavior by picking Yuumi to counter Adam’s Olaf in a scrim. Additionally, G2’s top laner commented: “Olaf top is just a waste of my time.”

In the match against Fnatic, we witnessed how Wunder struggled against Adam during the laning phase. Even when playing Irelia – a very strong laner in game 3, Wunder had a “nightmare” early and mid-game as he was repeatedly camped and didn’t secure a single kill, dying 4 times before the 20-minute mark. However, thanks to the stellar performance from Caps and Jankos, G2 managed to regain control of the game, but their victory in game 3 was all they could achieve before being crushed in games 4 and 5.
It can be said that rising from a second-tier European league and achieving the accomplishments that Adam has and is currently achieving is a strong testament to the talent of this player born in 2001. Although Wunder has made some “unfair-play” comments and actions regarding his younger counterpart, Adam’s journey is still very long, and he will need to strive even harder to dispel all doubts and affirm his value in one of the top regions of the League of Legends scene.
