Teamfight Tactics: What Has Suddenly Made Teemo the Unit with the Highest Win Rate Right Now?

Teemo is proving to be an extremely strong counter to the current meta of Teamfight Tactics Season 5.5.

After the release of patch 11.16b, which brought heavy nerfs to Tristana and Lulu, the Demon composition has weakened significantly compared to before. However, what’s noteworthy is that Teemo has not been affected by the decline of the Demon team; in fact, this unit has become the one with the highest win rate in Teamfight Tactics. According to statistics from the specialized site Metatft.com, Teemo currently boasts a 21.6% win rate with an average placement of 3.9, both of which are incredibly impressive numbers.

A fact is that in the current meta of Teamfight Tactics, damage dealers who primarily deal damage through basic attacks have become extremely popular. Hot champions like Yasuo, Riven, Draven, Jax, Kayle, and even Nidalee are all such damage dealers. The characteristic of these champions is that they highly depend on attack speed, so players often have to equip them with items that include Wood Bow components to ensure output damage.

Even with damage dealers that deal significant damage through skills like Aphelios, this unit also heavily relies on attack speed stats. With the absence of the Shojin Spear meta, Aphelios players must use Guinsoo’s Rageblade to increase this champion’s mana recovery capability. In summary, in the current meta, the number of damage dealers reliant on attack speed is extremely large.

Returning to Teemo, one of the most powerful weapons this character possesses is the ability to reduce attack speed by up to 50% from his skill. This significantly diminishes the output damage of the opponent’s damage dealers, as their attack speed and energy “charging” capabilities are slowed down by 50%. For melee damage dealers like Riven, Jax, and Yasuo, being subjected to such a reduction in output damage makes them easier to defeat since they cannot ensure their recovery capability.

Another strength of Teemo is that he can help you counter compositions that rely on three-star champions. Essentially, when the opponent’s composition has only one unit left, Teemo will always win regardless of how high the opponent’s level or items are, thanks to the effect of the Demon tribe. This allows you to spectacularly defeat your opponent.

So how should we use Teemo? The answer is that players should use Teemo in the late game when only a few opponents remain, as you will know exactly which composition you need to counter. The basic theory would be to replace a low-value unit with Teemo to counter your opponent. The ideal condition for adding Teemo to the field is that you already have one Sorcerer unit, and Teemo’s presence will help the composition recover mana better. If you are playing around the trio of Heimerdinger – Ivern – Volibear, Teemo is an excellent addition.

To ensure that Teemo can survive and cast his skills most effectively, you should equip this unit with a Trap Claw alongside items that recover mana and increase damage. This item will help Teemo avoid being taken down too early by strong damage dealers like Aphelios and Heimerdinger. In case you have to face a strong Vel’Koz user, equipping health items for Teemo is also a good choice.
