League of Legends fans are likely familiar with the “unlucky” cases in the professional player scene, such as the “king of second place” Uzi or the “penalty god” Score. However, the issue is that while they have indeed been unlucky, at least Uzi and Score are still not as unfortunate as Santorin – the player currently representing Team Liquid in the North American League of Legends tournament.
In the early hours of this morning, Team Liquid was unexpectedly crushed by 100 Thieves with a score of 0-3 in the LCS Summer Finals 2021, leaving them to sadly witness their opponents crowned champions. For Santorin, this marks his 4th consecutive finals defeat.
Previously, the jungler born in 1997 had finished second twice in the 2020 season while playing for FlyQuest, suffering defeats against Cloud9 and Team SoloMid in the Spring and Summer Finals, respectively.
In 2021, he moved to Team Liquid – a true powerhouse in North America, not just a rising force like FlyQuest, but it seems the second-place curse has firmly set into his fate. In the spring phase, Santorin unexpectedly faced health issues and was only registered as a substitute in the finals, sadly watching TL lose to C9.
By summer, even though TL was favored, Santorin’s team delivered an unbelievably poor performance, losing to 100 Thieves – a rival not among the “Big Four” (TSM, CLG, C9, TL).

While the defeats of Uzi or Score may carry more significance, it is clear that experiencing the sting of losing in finals four times in just two years, with one heartbreak following another, truly earns Santorin a place among those two legends in terms of “bad luck.”
