Yesterday, September 12 (Vietnam time), the grand final of the Esports Championships East Asia 2021 in League of Legends concluded with a victory for the South Korean team. Notably, in the group stage, South Korea was defeated by China twice, and they could only reach the final thanks to two wins against Japan – a country that is not highly regarded in the field of League of Legends.

With two easy wins and advancing to the finals with a record of 4 wins and 0 losses, China was very confident ahead of the ECEA 2021 final. However, in the end, the young players from the host country South Korea defeated the young names from their “arch-rival” China with a total score of 3-1. Notably, South Korea’s victory came from a comeback after trailing China in game 1.

The Esports Championships East Asia is a tournament held with three participating countries: China, Japan, and South Korea. Among them, China and South Korea are seen as the two most promising names for the championship, as Japan has never been highly regarded in the Esports field.
Specifically, in League of Legends, this is also considered a great opportunity for young players from academy teams and junior teams to gain experience. For this reason, most teams only sent young players to participate, especially when the main roster had just gone through a stressful season and still had to prepare for the upcoming 2021 World Championship.
