T1 Apologizes to Gumayusi Again, Deepening “Animosity” with the Fan Community
After the recent match between T1 and KT, not only Coach KkOma but also the team’s GM Becker shared a post about the incident, offering an apology to player Gumayusi. However, T1’s upper management post, which was published around 2 AM, sparked intense debate. The main points of the post included congratulating Faker on his milestone of 1000 games and Geumjae (Smash) on his debut, while also thanking the coaching staff for their silent contributions. He also called for an end to the criticism of Gumayusi, corrected misinformation, and pledged to support the team better in the future.
According to many opinions, the GM actually still supports the coaches’ views (regarding the unnecessary replacement of Gumayusi), and the apology directed at Gumayusi is somewhat “double-edged” as T1 has not proposed any solution for the attacks and toxicity that Gumayusi has faced since the drama began.
In fact, on the day of Faker’s 1000-game anniversary, 9 trucks paraded in protest outside the SK and T1 headquarters to express frustration with T1’s upper management and Gumayusi. However, by the end of the day, no one had seen T1 make any statements. For those who may not know, 9 trucks are more than double the total number of games that Gumayusi has played so far, despite T1 having gone through the LCK Cup and 3 Regular Season matches in 2025.
T1 is Becoming Increasingly Clumsy
Immediately after the lengthy post that ignited community debate, GM Becker issued another apology for the previous post, claiming it was just a personal opinion. However, this is not the first time in the past six months, since the Zeus incident, that T1 has shown inconsistency in its statements to the media.
A prime example is after Coach KkOma asserted “data collection,” GM Becker claimed that Gumayusi had not scrimmed at all. Then, T1’s CEO stated that he had to “intervene” for Guma to return to play. This later became a reason for anti-fans to attack the player even more heavily.
From being a team known for its highly professional media handling in the League of Legends scene, T1 is continuously making moves that seem to “dig their own grave.” And this, unfortunately, is something T1 has brought upon itself, while the players are the “victims.”
