As we know, since season 12 of League of Legends, Riot will change the ranked frames for all ranks from Iron, Bronze to Challenger. While everyone understands that Riot is trying to refresh its 10-year-old game, the ranked frames of season 12 have been criticized heavily by players. Many opinions have suggested that Riot’s new design is too “basic”, even “like some cheap mobile games”.

After about a month of listening to feedback (mostly negative) from players, Riot Games has recently announced that they will completely upgrade the ranked frames in League of Legends. Specifically, according to the remarks from the lead game designer of ranked play – Jordan Checkman, the entire ranked frame will be upgraded to be brighter and more distinguishable than before.

The biggest change lies in the frames at the Platinum and Diamond ranks, which will have additional designs to look much cooler. Additionally, the Silver and Gold frames after the upgrade will have much brighter colors, highlighting the nature of these ranks.

Essentially, the ranked frame represents the achievements that players have earned after a League of Legends season. Therefore, regardless of whether your rank is Silver, Gold, Diamond, or Challenger, a visually appealing ranked frame is always satisfying for players. Clearly, the design of the “new” ranked frame with too dark tones and less vibrant colors has significantly decreased player satisfaction, resulting in Riot receiving a barrage of criticism at the beginning of the season.
