In the match on February 15th (Vietnam time), Weibo Gaming will face off against EDward Gaming. This is one of the two highlight matches of the fifth week of the LPL Spring 2022 (the other match is Royal Never Give Up against LNG Esports on Sunday, February 20th). Both teams, WBG and EDG, have been performing well so far, and facing WBG will be the first high-quality test for EDG in this year’s LPL Spring.

In terms of performance and results, EDG is currently doing better than WBG, as the reigning 2021 World Champion has been undefeated since the beginning of the season. In their matches, EDG has achieved convincing victories. Notably, they have only lost one game to Ultra Prime, with the rest being 2-0 wins. Moreover, EDG has also faced a period without their full roster, as top laner Flandre has not played for various reasons, forcing EDG to use substitute Xiaoxiang, yet they still achieved good results.

As for WBG, so far, most viewers agree that this is one of the most unpredictable teams in the LPL Spring 2022. They can lose any game but then crush their opponents in the next game. The two matches against Victory Five and FunPlus Phoenix are the clearest examples of this. The WBG players are also truly unpredictable, as from TheShy, SofM to Angel and ON, they can perform exceptionally well but then disappear in the next game. The only player who performs consistently for WBG might be “Coach Huấn” Huanfeng.
However, in the match against EDG on the afternoon of February 15th, SofM is the name that garners the most attention, and LPL fans believe that it will be him, not TheShy or Huanfeng, who will determine the outcome of the match. SofM has always been an exceptionally skilled jungler in the LPL. On a good day, SofM can obliterate any opponent. Not to mention, alongside him now is TheShy – a more versatile player who does not rely solely on SofM, allowing the “Vietnamese God of the Jungle” to play more freely.

But it must be said that SofM’s current performance is not always at 100%. Furthermore, sometimes his aggressive and controlling play style can lead him and his teammates to be countered by their opponents. EDG is a very strong team in the LPL and the worldwide League of Legends scene at the moment, and certainly, once a mistake is made against them, the punishment will be much harsher than against teams like V5 or FPX.

However, as one of the most experienced players on the team, and being the one who regulates the gameplay in the early and mid-game, SofM’s role is incredibly important. He must not only keep Jiejie in check but also support other lanes. One comforting thought is that TheShy is also not an easy opponent for Flandre. But other explosive players like Scout or Viper can definitely cause surprises, especially in the current bottom lane meta.
The WBG – EDG matchup is not just a clash between two of the best-performing teams in the LPL but also holds significance in asserting the strength of both sides. SofM himself admitted that EDG currently has no weaknesses, but he also stated that WBG will study their opponent thoroughly, and thus, fans can definitely expect a truly spectacular match between these two giants of the Chinese League of Legends scene.
