In the LPL Spring 2022, Weibo Gaming had to exit early in their second playoff match against JD Gaming. That match day was truly a disaster for WBG, especially in game 5. Only SofM was trying, while the other four players were not themselves at all. One of the most criticized names was none other than TheShy.

However, this season has truly recorded many efforts from “Shy Ca” after a long time of ups and downs at Invictus Gaming. Notably, in both matches against the reigning LPL Summer 2021 champion, EDward Gaming, and the 2021 World Championship, TheShy performed exceptionally well. He completely neutralized Flandre’s top lane, leading to EDG’s two embarrassing losses against WBG. In fact, EDG’s only win came from an outstanding individual effort by Scout.

Recently, “SofM’s best friend” Flandre spoke out about the failures against TheShy in the recent Spring 2022. According to the 2021 World Championship champion, “Every time I face TheShy this season, I get anxious. I feel really confused. I don’t feel that way when playing against anyone else. It’s just every time I face TheShy and get taken down again and again, I feel like I’m no longer myself.”

However, according to some LPL fans, Flandre is just “making excuses” for his declining performance, especially after the 2021 World Championship. The fact is, EDG in the Spring 2022 not only lost to WBG. Prior to that, EDG also lost to teams considered much weaker, such as Anyone’s Legend and LNG Esports. Ending the group stage in 7th place with 6 losses is truly hard to accept for the 2021 World Championship champions.

This result from EDG truly disappoints fans in China, especially since just a few months ago, they brought glory to LPL. Currently, EDG needs to quickly regroup to prepare for the Summer 2022. If they continue their current performance, the chance of EDG “bowing out” early in the Summer is quite high, and at that point, disappointment will peak.
