A few days ago, the LPL was once again shaken when a player from LGD Gaming, mid-laner Jay, was discovered to be involved in match-fixing. Notably, the matches in question were against top teams like Bilibili Gaming, featuring the legendary Uzi, and Top Esports – a team currently vying for the top 4 in the LPL Spring 2022 championship. However, both teams have been confirmed to be unrelated to Jay’s case.

Immediately after the information was released, LGD quickly issued a statement. The team announced that they had collected evidence and reported it to the LPL organizers and Riot Games China. It can be said that this is another unhappy Spring for the League of Legends community in the populous nation. In the Spring of the 2021 season, player Bo from FunPlus Phoenix was also accused of match-fixing and had to end his career shortly after debuting in the LPL.

Recently, LGD and LPL organizers announced the punishment for Jay after the investigation and evidence collection process. Accordingly, LGD has terminated Jay’s contract and reserved the right to pursue legal action. With this factor, the LGD team has every right to sue Jay in the future if the player’s actions negatively affect the team’s image and reputation.

The LPL organizers also decided to indefinitely suspend Jay from competition. Additionally, this player will not be able to participate in any tournaments organized by Tencent, TJ Esports, and Riot Games, whether as a professional or semi-professional. Moreover, Jay is also prohibited from livestreaming any League of Legends-related content.

It can be said that the punishment from LGD, the LPL organizers, and Riot Games China for Jay’s case is extremely severe. The VCS community compares it to a recent global ban for Zeros and Minas from Vietnam, who are still able to livestream. Recently, Zeros even participated in a community League of Legends tournament. In the past, cases like Tyler1 or Jensen did not receive penalties as harsh as Jay’s.

This shows that in a major esports scene like China, there will be appropriate penalties for players who commit serious violations. Ultimately, Jay can only blame himself for the impulsive moments that have ruined his entire career.
